Qualifications

  • 5+ years of continuous construction safety experience in supervision or management
  • OSHA 30-Hour construction safety certificate (within last 5 years)
  • 40 hours of formal safety training covering EM 385-1-1
  • 8 hours of documented formal safety training each year for the past five years
  • Ability to communicate and influence supervisors, peers, and external partners
  • Experience in crane, fall protection, excavation, scaffolds, and heavy equipment safety

Full time

As a Safety Manager, you will ensure the safety of employees, trade partners, and the general public on our world class projects. The Safety Manager is responsible for creating a culture of care while enforcing Clark's Safety and Health Policy, as well as, local and federal safety standards on jobsites. This role leads employee safety education in partnership with project supervisors to develop safe work plans for all phases and tasks. To us, no project is successful unless it is built safely. For this role, we are seeking a dedicated and highly qualified Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) to oversee all safety and health-related aspects of our federal construction project.

Responsibilities
  • Drive the Clark safety culture on a project
  • Oversee and ensure the safety of employees, trade partners, and general public
  • Enforce corporate and project specific safety and health programs as well as federal, state, and local safety standards
  • Develop, implement, and manage the project-specific Accident Prevention Plan (APP) and other safety-related plans as required by the contract and EM 385-1-1
  • Develop, review, and approve Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) for all work tasks, ensuring that hazards are identified and appropriate control measures are in place before work begins
  • Mentor safety staff and assist in their development
  • Identify known or potential exposures and recommend corrective action
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement overall project specific safety programs
  • Partner with field supervision to ensure safety hazard mitigation measures are included in the planning of project construction activities
  • Develop project specific safety education for jobsite personnel, including subcontractors, based upon upcoming work activities or recent at-risk trends
  • Drive and create a safety vision and aligns the team to deliver and achieve a safe workplace for everyone.
  • Facilitate third party safety reviews including OSHA
  • Teach safety-related topics within Clark beyond your jobsite
  • Assist with business plan objective and/or other corporate initiatives including OSHA, Red and Blue Alerts and Corporate policies and procedures
  • Proactively identify and develop relationships with industry professionals to generate and win the right work
  • Take an active role in recruiting top industry talent to join the Clark team. Identify, hire, and retain outstanding people
  • Exceed our stakeholders’ expectations by anticipating their needs, desires, and goals
Basic Qualifications
  • A minimum offive (5) yearsof continuous construction industry safety experience in supervising or managing general construction (or a similar industry-related college degree and 3 years of experience)
  • Must possess a current OSHA 30-Hour construction safety training certificate (completed within the last 5 years)
  • Must have completed40 hoursof formal safety training covering the EM 385-1-1 manual
  • Must have maintained competency througheight (8) hoursof documented formal safety and health training each year for the past five years
  • Ability to communicate and influence supervisors, peers, and external partners
  • Proof of training and experience in managing crane, fall protection, excavation, scaffolds, and heavy equipment safely
  • Ability to communicate effectively with, persuade, and gain buy-in from a broad range of stakeholders from a new craft worker to senior executive leader
  • Agile, energetic, data driven approach to achieving individual and organizational objectives while balancing short term and long term goals

Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) certification
  • Experience working on federal government, DoD, or USACE/NAVFAC construction projects
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification
  • Strong understanding of construction means and methods

The work environment and requirements described below are representative of those necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this role.

The Physical Side of the Role:

This is an active, hands‑on role. You can expect to be on your feet frequently, navigating active job sites with uneven terrain, stairs, ladders, and hoists. The work is physically demanding and requires a full range of motion, including bending, kneeling, and reaching. You’ll need to be comfortable frequently lifting and carrying materials up to 25 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds. This role requires the ability to communicate effectively, as well as visual acuity for reading plans and inspecting work. The role does include desk time in the office that may require prolonged periods of sitting for tasks like computer work, document review, and meetings.

Your Work Environment:

You’ll spend a significant amount of your time on active construction sites, which means being adaptable to all kinds of weather and moderate to loud noise levels, and comfortable in elevated or confined work areas with moving mechanical equipment and with the fast‑paced nature of a project in progress. You will also spend time in a typical office setting with moderate noise levels. Your safety is our top priority, and you'll be expected to follow Clark Construction's safety policies and procedures, and all applicable laws, at all locations.

For this role the base salary range is $80,000-145,000. Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location.
