Job summary

Brinkmann Constructors is seeking a Safety Manager to lead our on-site safety program and cultivate a culture of safety across projects in Phoenix. You will oversee safety documentation, onboarding, and training, and partner with project teams to integrate best practices on every site.

Responsibilities
  • Working directly with the Project Managers and Superintendents to ensure safety is built into everyproject
  • Monitoring and discussing safety programs and efforts with on-site subcontractors and Brinkmannemployees, ensuring safety is part of our culture and that all new hires have proper safetydocuments and information
  • Overseeing issuance of new hire safety documents and leading the immersion of new employeesand subcontractors into the Brinkmann safety culture
  • Coordinating with project supervision to ensure personal protective equipment/safety materials andfirst aid supplies are available and utilized, and all safety documents are posted on-siteVerifying tools and equipment to ensure good quality
  • Recording and forwarding copies of all safety related meetings, programs, safety pre-plans,inspections, correspondence, directives, citations, etc. to the Director for tracking
  • Conducting safety/health inspections as required
  • Identifying project trends and executing proactive safety initiatives to eliminate incidents
  • Identifying safety training needs and developing effective safety trainings in partnership with People Development
  • Keeping current all required safety documents and literature
  • Overseeing protection of public and minimizing construction hazards
  • Monitoring maintenance of adequate first aid supplies
  • Maintaining project OSHA 300 log of injuries/illnesses and coordinating corrective measures
  • Coordinating compliance with Brinkmann’s Storm Water Pollution and Prevention Plans
  • Leading and living Brinkmann’s culture of safety first
  • Overseeing the recording, notifying, and preparation of written report of any violations or unsafe practices to subcontractors for immediate corrective actions
  • Stopping at once any violation or unsafe acts or practices
  • Coaching project team members on safety leadership & management practices
  • Overseeing subcontractor project onboarding (preconstruction meetings, review site-specific safety plan and job hazard analysis (JHA), review training requirements, orientation)
  • Participating in pre-mortem and preconstruction meetings such as tower crane assembly and disassembly, tilt up operations, precast erection, zero lot line projects, shoring, excavations 15' or greater, deeper utilities, masonry, high risk scaffolding, ROW operations, blasting, steel erection, SWPPP, Panelized systems, high risk jobsites, power energization, demolition, roofing, and setting rooftop equipment
  • Coordinating responses and compliance reports with Brinkmann’s insurance company
  • Investigating all injuries and reviewing all accident reports, coordinating corrective measures with Brinkmann employees or subcontractor personnel
  • Worker’s Compensation reporting
  • Facilitating training for site personnel and ensuring that standards are per the OSHA/Brinkmann requirements and in compliance with federal and state standards
  • Assisting in OSHA compliance inspections and close out
  • Minimizing construction hazards and enforcing safety policies utilizing Brinkmann’s disciplinary policy
  • Implementing Brinkmann safety policies, procedures, and programs
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Ensuring training and development of Safety Coordinator and Specialists
  • Executing onboarding and training/development program for Safety Coordinator and Specialists
  • Interviewing and hiring Safety Coordinators and Specialists
  • Assigning responsibilities and leading the work of Safety Coordinator and Specialists
  • Providing ongoing performance feedback, coaching, and identifying development opportunities for Safety Coordinator and Specialists
  • Conducting quarterly check-ins and annual performance reviews for Safety Coordinators and Specialists
  • May be asked to serve as a mentor to new hires during onboarding
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management or related field
  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience managing the safety efforts on large construction projects
  • Minimum of 3 years of field experience preferred
  • Ability to work with all construction groups: management, owners, trades, and subcontractors
  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Must be a motivated and task driven individual
  • Ability to understand and solve complex challenges to present alternative solutions
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Working Conditions:

  • The Safety Manager’s work is primarily performed indoors out of a main office or field office at theconstruction site; occasionally outdoors in various weather conditions with some exposure to healthor safety hazards, including noise level may range from moderate to loud.
  • Light physical effort is required, including the handling of objects up to 20 pounds and somestanding, walking, sitting, talking and/or hearing.
  • Construction site will change or vary and/or position may require travel.
  • Environment will be demanding and fast paced; number of hours typically worked in a workweekmay exceed 40 hours per week and often “on call” 24 hours a day.
  • Position requires frequent, high-level of autonomy as it relates to decision-making that impactscompany results.
