Herzog Energy Inc. is seeking a Safety Manager on-site in Burns, NY to lead the project Health, Safety and Security Program. You will implement the safety plan, conduct inspections, and drive continuous improvement in safety performance.

Qualifications include 5+ years in EHSS on power-generation projects, strong knowledge of OSHA standards, and proven leadership and communication skills. This role requires on-site presence and a commitment to safety excellence.

  • 5+ years of qualifying EHSS experience in power-generation construction or equivalent.
  • Experience leading a large, multi-employer safety program.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA construction standards and safety requirements.
  • Experience with JHAs/JSAs, risk assessments, field inspections, and incident investigations.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with cross-functional collaboration.
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in safety, recognized safety credential, advanced OSHA training, and relevant project experience.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the on-site Safety/EHSS Manager with leadership over the Health, Safety and Security Program.
  • Develop, implement, and improve the project Health, Safety and Security Plan and related procedures.
  • Conduct field inspections, safety observations, and leadership engagements; identify hazards and ensure corrective actions.
  • Lead JHAs/JSAs, risk assessments, and pre-task planning, focusing on high-risk activities.
  • Exercise Stop Work authority per project requirements and address violations.
  • Lead and support orientation, training, meetings, and safety communications with the workforce.
  • Promote Herzog culture and safety behaviors and maintain punctual attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Overview

Herzog Energy Inc.is currently seeking a Safety Manager in Town of Burns, NY to join our team.

The pay range for this position is $90,000.00 - $110,000.00 annually.

Duties and Responsibilities:

*This is a non-exhaustive overview of the job duties for this position.

  • Serve as the project's full-time, dedicated on-site Safety/EHSS Manager, providing leadership and oversight of the Project Health, Safety and Security Program in accordance with Herzog, AES, regulatory, permit, and project-specific requirements.
  • Implement, maintain, and continuously improve the project Health, Safety and Security Plan, including policies, procedures, training, emergency preparedness, incident management, documentation, and compliance tracking.
  • Conduct routine field inspections, site walks, safety observations, and leadership engagements; identify existing and predictable hazards and ensure prompt corrective action.
  • Lead and review JHAs/JSAs, pre-task planning, and risk assessments, with particular attention to high-risk activities and changing work conditions.
  • Exercise Competent Person and Stop Work authority, including requiring corrective action and addressing serious or repeated violations in accordance with project requirements.
  • Lead and support employee and supervisor orientation, training, safety meetings, coaching, and mentoring, ensuring safety information is effectively communicated to the workforce
  • Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog's Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.
  • Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of qualifying power-generation construction EHSS experience and/or power-plant construction, oil and gas, or chemical EHSS experience, consistent with the AES EHSS Manager requirement reflected in the current position description.
  • Demonstrated construction safety-management experience with the ability to independently lead a large, multi-employer project safety program.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA construction standards and applicable federal, state, local, owner, contractual, and project-specific safety requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience with JHAs/JSAs, risk assessments, field inspections, incident investigations, training, corrective actions, emergency preparedness, and subcontractor oversight.
  • Strong leadership, communication, coaching, mentoring, conflict-resolution, and decision-making skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships across multiple levels of the project organization.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in a safety-related discipline; recognized professional safety credential; OSHA 30-Hour Construction and advanced OSHA 510 training; First Aid/CPR/AED certification; and utility-scale solar, renewable-energy, electrical, heavy-civil, or power-generation construction experience
Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and endorsements as required per position.
  • Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position.
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
Physical Requirements:

  • Able to walk on uneven surfaces
  • Occasionally ascend/descend step ladders and/or stairs
  • Regularly sit and stand for an extended period of time.
  • Regularly kneel, bend, and squat
  • Able to visually distinguish colors - red, blue, green, yellow; hear and distinguish auditory signals.
  • Able to work in conditions with loud noise; work on/around heavy/moving machinery.
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet).
  • Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.
  • Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals as required by the position.
