Job summary

Rite Aid in Honolulu, Hawaii is seeking an experienced EHS professional to lead environmental, health and safety initiatives across the organization. You will partner with Corporate Safety, HR and site leadership to develop action plans, drive compliance with OSHA/EPA standards, and deliver training and risk assessments to protect employees and assets.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four‑year college or university, and three or more years of related experience or training; or an equivalent combination.
  • Language: Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents; respond to inquiries from customers, regulatory agencies and the business community; write speeches and articles; present information to top management, public groups and boards of directors.
  • Mathematical: Ability to apply probability, statistical inference, plane and solid geometry, trigonometry, fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Reasoning: Ability to solve practical problems and handle varying conditions with limited standardization; interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

  • Facilitate leadership involvement with monthly safety updates and business planning.
  • Analyze accidents to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
  • Identify safety trends and implement improvement plans with management.
  • Formulate safety, security, and environmental policies compliant with OSHA and EPA.
  • Coordinate safety training, SOPs, JSA, SSP and safety programs.

Job description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work with Corporate Safety Manager, HR, and leadership to develop an annual EHS Action Plan for Arbon Equipment.
  • Facilitate leadership involvement and participation in the safety program through monthly updates on safety indicators and incorporate safety into business planning and goals.
  • Analyze individual accidents to determine root causes, recommend corrective actions, and communicate findings to field management.
  • Analyze accident history and trends to identify problem areas, develop improvement plans, and implement corrective actions with organization management.
  • Formulate general safety, security, and environmental policies and procedures in compliance with OSHA and EPA regulations.
  • Develop and maintain a health‑and‑safety oriented work philosophy, including training materials, SOPs, job safety analysis, awareness campaigns and incentive programs.
  • Consult with local offices on equipment design, shop safety, fire prevention and safety programs.
  • Conduct field safety audits of employees, job sites, and Arbon facilities; communicate audit results and maintain an audit database for performance reviews and safety action plans.
  • Compile and submit accident reports and OSHA 300A data required by regulatory agencies; complete OSHA 300 logs for all office locations and coordinate posting with field management.
  • Oversee workers’ compensation and auto claims administration, including reporting systems, post‑accident drug and alcohol testing, return‑to‑work/light‑duty programs and cost control.
  • Assist field personnel with contractor qualification reports and address safety issues associated with subcontractors, customers and general contractors.
  • Support customer requirements for quoted or awarded jobs, including JSA, SSP, risk assessments and specialized safety programs and training requirements.
  • Assist with third‑party prequalification for customers, including safety questionnaires, program submittals, insurance certificates, training assignments and qualifications.
  • Devises, supervises and coordinates safety training and orientation programs for the Learning Management System; monitor annual safety training compliance and conduct OSHA 10 and 30‑hour construction classes.
  • Work with vendors to ensure quality safety‑related supplies, PPE, crane, fire extinguisher, service truck inspections and security services for districts.
  • Formulate DOT compliance policies for the company fleet and monitor Auto Policy points; facilitate MVR review process.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities, but the employee is responsible for work direction, advice and consultation specific to location safety activity.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee must regularly talk or hear; frequently stand, walk and sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Requires lifting and moving up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Specific vision abilities include close and distance vision and adjustment of focus. Position requires frequent overnight travel to field locations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment may include wet or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high precarious locations, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, various weather conditions, extreme cold, risk of electrical shock and vibration. Noise level is usually moderate but can be loud to very loud on job sites.
