Job summary

Transdev is seeking a Safety Manager in Grand Rapids, MI, responsible for ensuring compliance with safety regulations across the location. This role also entails recruiting and training staff while promoting positive morale in the workplace.

The ideal candidate will have at least three years in passenger transportation and possess a high school diploma or GED. Competitive compensation is offered, ranging from $64,000 to $80,000, along with comprehensive benefits including vacation and 401(k) retirement plans.

Safety Manager

Location: Grand Rapids, MI.

The Safety Manager ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and with company safety requirements. The role involves continuous leadership, recruitment, and training of operator candidates and promotes strong leadership to influence positive employee morale across the location.

Pay & Benefits
  • Competitive compensation: minimum $64,000 – maximum $80,000
  • Vacation: minimum two (2) weeks

Key Responsibilities
  • Provides behind‑the‑wheel instruction as per corporate and client specifications, covering vehicle operation, passenger transportation, defensive driving, and passenger loading/unloading.
  • Conducts classroom training in accordance with corporate and location requirements.
  • Ensures all safety manuals, programs, policies, and procedures are current and meet the needs of the location.
  • Documents all training activities and maintains accurate training records.
  • Builds relationships with client and corporate personnel to identify additional training needs, resources, and opportunities.
  • Prepares and conducts monthly safety meetings.
  • Maintains an adequate filing system, participates in audits and inspections to meet client and corporate expectations.
  • Directs the location’s drug & alcohol program, including random drug testing and audit‑ready file updates.
  • Manages the injury prevention program to reduce workplace injuries.
  • Conducts accident investigations using root‑cause analysis and assigns re‑training as required.
  • Maintains and posts OSHA log.
  • Conducts road observations to evaluate operator safety, customer service, and systematic knowledge.
  • Provides coaching and re‑training on Drive Cam as needed.
  • Responds to customer comments related to the service.
  • Works shifts or flexible schedules as needed.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Travel outside of immediate area: <10%
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the passenger transportation industry.
  • Experience in location safety management and/or operations management.
  • Experience creating and managing training materials.
  • Must be able to work shifts or flexible schedules as needed.
  • Subject to a DOT drug testing and physical if applicable; DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including cannabis, for any reason.
