Job summary

Description


The Safety Manager is responsible for leading and advancing STARC's enterprise-wide safety strategy, ensuring a safe, healthy, and compliant workplace across all operations. This role partners closely with leaders throughout the organization to develop proactive safety programs, strengthen a culture of safety, reduce workplace risk, and ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.


Reporting to the SVP of Manufacturing and Operations, with a close collaborative relationship and dotted-line partnership with Human Resources, the Safety Manager serves as the organization's subject matter expert on workplace safety, regulatory compliance, injury prevention, and safety culture.


The successful candidate is a highly visible, hands-on leader who balances strategic planning with operational execution. They are equally comfortable developing enterprise safety strategy, influencing senior leaders, and working directly on the manufacturing floor to identify hazards, coach employees, investigate incidents, and implement practical, sustainable solutions that strengthen STARC's safety culture.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Safety Leadership & Strategy


  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve STARC's enterprise-wide safety management program, systems, policies, and procedures.

  • Establish annual safety goals, initiatives, key performance indicators (KPIs), and performance metrics aligned with organizational objectives.

  • Leads the companywide and sub-safety committees in alignment with company goals.

  • Foster a proactive safety culture by engaging leaders and employees at all levels to promote accountability and ownership.

  • Champion continuous improvement through safety observations, audits, inspections, and corrective action programs.

  • Partner with leadership to integrate safety into operational planning, process improvements, and business decision-making.

  • Monitor and communicate safety performance, trends, and recommendations to executive leadership.


Regulatory Compliance


  • Ensure organizational compliance with OSHA and all applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations.

  • Manage OSHA recordkeeping, reporting requirements, regulatory inspections, and agency correspondence, in partnership with HR.

  • Develop, maintain, and audit required safety programs, policies, permits, and documentation.

  • Monitor regulatory changes and implement updates to ensure ongoing compliance.


Manufacturing & Facility Safety


  • Lead safety initiatives across manufacturing and operations, , office environments.

  • Conduct hazard assessments for machinery, powered hand tools, production equipment, material handling systems, powered industrial trucks, and manufacturing processes.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain critical safety programs including machine guarding, lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space, electrical safety, fall protection, personal protective equipment (PPE), hazard communication, and emergency preparedness.

  • Support new equipment installations, facility expansions, capital projects, and process improvements to ensure safety is incorporated into design and implementation.

  • Develop and maintain safety procedures, inspection requirements, and employee training for company equipment and vehicles, including the box truck, to promote safe operation and regulatory compliance.


Risk Assessment & Incident Management


  • Lead incident investigations utilizing root cause analysis methodologies and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.

  • Conduct routine workplace inspections, job hazard analyses, and risk assessments to proactively identify and mitigate hazards.

  • Monitor safety metrics, injury trends, near misses, and corrective action completion to drive continuous improvement.

  • Develop action plans that reduce workplace injuries and improve overall safety performance.


Ergonomics & Injury Prevention


  • Lead ergonomic assessments for manufacturing and office environments.

  • Recommend engineering, administrative, and behavioral improvements that reduce ergonomic risk and improve employee well-being.

  • Partner with leaders to implement injury prevention initiatives and safe work practices throughout the organization.


Training & Employee Engagement


  • Design, develop, and deliver engaging safety training programs for new hires, existing employees, supervisors, and managers.

  • Facilitate safety meetings, toolbox talks, emergency response training, annual compliance training, and safety awareness initiatives.

  • Coach leaders on safety expectations, accountability, and best practices.

  • Promote employee engagement through safety committees, recognition programs, and continuous feedback.


Cross-Functional Partnership


  • Build strong partnerships with Operations, Human Resources, Engineering, Facilities, and leadership teams to support organizational objectives.

  • Partner with Human Resources on Workers' Compensation administration, return-to-work programs, safety-related accommodations, and injury prevention initiatives.

  • Support internal and external audits, customer requirements, insurance inspections, and regulatory reviews.

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to ensure safety remains a core organizational value.


Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive environmental health and safety (EHS) or safety leadership experience within a manufacturing, industrial, or production environment.

  • Demonstrated success developing, implementing, and continuously improving enterprise-wide safety programs, policies, and initiatives.

  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and other applicable federal, state, and local safety requirements, with experience ensuring organizational compliance and managing regulatory inspections.

  • Experience conducting hazard assessments, incident investigations, root cause analyses, risk assessments, and implementing sustainable corrective and preventive actions.

  • Experience supporting manufacturing operations involving machinery, fabrication equipment, material handling systems, powered industrial trucks, and industrial production processes.

  • Knowledge of machine guarding, lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space, electrical safety, personal protective equipment (PPE), ergonomics, hazard communication, and other occupational safety programs.

  • Experience designing and delivering safety training programs while coaching leaders and employees to strengthen accountability and engagement.

  • Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships, influence leaders at all levels of the organization, and partner effectively across Operations, Human Resources, Engineering, Facilities, and other functional areas.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret safety metrics, identify trends, and develop data-driven improvement strategies.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical safety concepts to diverse audiences.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

  • Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST), OSHA 30-Hour Certification, First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor certification, or Lean Manufacturing/Continuous Improvement experience are preferred.

Base Compensation Range: $90,000.00 - $100,000.00


Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at STARC Systems.
