Job summary

Whitaker Construction, founded in 1953, is a leading heavy civil and underground utility contractor based in Utah. We are seeking a Safety Manager to lead the health and safety program, conduct supervisor and employee training, and ensure compliance with OSHA and state regulations.

The role requires coordinating risk assessments, incident investigations, and cross-department collaboration to enhance safety across projects in Utah and surrounding states.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in OSHA guidelines and other relevant safety regulations.
• Familiarity with workplace tools, machinery, and equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to teach and enforce safety standards.
• Competence in computer literacy and technology used in safety management.
• Team-oriented with the ability to interact effectively with diverse groups.
• Previous experience in the health and safety field, preferably in a similar role.
• Industry-specific knowledge and experience writing safety policies.
• Familiarity with safety management systems and data collection methods.
• Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Public Safety), or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
• On-the-job training provided, focusing on organization-specific risk factors and safety procedures.
• Bilingual preferred: English/Spanish, as this role involves frequent communication with Spanish-speaking employees.
• Reliable transportation to get to and from work.

A Safety Manager plays a pivotal role in enhancing workplace safety by assessing, implementing, and enforcing safety standards. This role encompasses various responsibilities aimed at mitigating risks, enforcing safety standards, and educating employees.

Whitaker Construction, founded in 1953, has over 70 years of experience in the heavy civil and underground utility construction industry. Whitaker, an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) company, has become one of the largest contractors in the intermountain area with more than 600 employees and nearly 70 crews. We perform sanitary sewer, storm drain, culinary water, irrigation, earthwork, roadway construction, dams, landfills, natural gas pipelines, industrial piping, and telecommunication projects primarily in Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Wyoming, Colorado, and Oregon.

Physical Requirements

• Able and willing to work long hours including day, night, and weekend shifts as needed, and work outside of normal hours.
