Job description

The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, directing, promoting, and implementing workplace safety programs, policies, and procedures to ensure a safe work environment and compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

This position provides overall leadership for the Safety Department and works closely with management, supervisors, and employees to identify and reduce workplace hazards, improve safety awareness, maintain regulatory compliance, and promote a strong safety culture.

  • Provide overall planning, direction, management, and administration of the Safety Department.
  • Develop and maintain safety systems, records, reports, and legal documentation to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory agencies.
  • Develop, direct, promote, and implement workplace safety programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Oversee safety audits, inspections, and monitoring activities to ensure compliance with occupational health and safety requirements.
  • Develop and implement a strategic safety vision based on organizational needs and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure employee and supervisory safety training programs are developed, implemented, and maintained in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate safety and training records.
  • Provide recommendations for programs, policies, and processes designed to reduce safety risks and increase safety awareness and compliance.
  • Partner with departmental supervisors and managers to identify safety and health hazards and areas of non-compliance.
  • Assist with resolving safety issues through problem-solving, training, corrective actions, and ongoing monitoring.
  • Evaluate compliance with safety standards, regulations, and internal safety programs through inspections, audits, and monitoring.
  • Respond to and investigate workplace safety concerns, incidents, and accidents and recommend corrective actions.
  • Stay current on new and upcoming regulatory requirements, workplace safety trends, and industry best practices.
  • Communicate regulatory and safety changes to senior management and provide recommendations as appropriate.
  • Assist with emergency preparedness, response, and remediation activities.
  • Communicate regularly with senior management, supervisors, and employees regarding safety policies, procedures, and expectations.
  • Promote collaboration and safety awareness throughout the organization.
  • Participate as a member of the Safety Committee and other committees as assigned.
  • Follow established work instructions and safety procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and other applicable federal, state, and local workplace safety regulations.
  • Experience with 5S, 5 Why, and VPP certification processes.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively lead, build, and manage a team.
  • Strong conflict-resolution and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Safety Management, Safety Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of management experience in industrial safety and employee training.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA requirements and workplace safety practices.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing safety programs and training.
  • Ability to interpret complex regulatory documents, safety standards, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze data, establish facts, identify problems, and develop effective solutions.
  • Ability to interpret technical instructions, diagrams, mathematical information, and other complex materials.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position may supervise up to two employees and is responsible for their overall direction, coordination, and evaluation.

Supervisory responsibilities include:
  • Interviewing and hiring employees.
  • Training and onboarding team members.
  • Planning, assigning, and directing work.
  • Evaluating employee performance.
  • Recognizing and rewarding performance.
  • Addressing performance concerns and disciplinary matters.
  • Resolving employee complaints and workplace issues.

This position operates in an industrial manufacturing environment and may involve exposure to:

  • Wet or humid conditions.
  • Extreme heat.
  • Moving mechanical equipment.
  • Electrical equipment.
  • Fumes and airborne particles.
  • Radiation.
  • Toxic or caustic chemicals.

Appropriate personal protective equipment and safety procedures must be followed based on the work environment and applicable regulations.

Physical Requirements

The employee may occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

The position may require the ability to:
