Owens Corning's Waxahachie plant seeks a Safety Lead to drive a world-class safety culture, lead SIF programs and environmental processes, and ensure compliance across the facility. The role partners with the EHS Leader to translate safety strategy into concrete actions and measurable results.

You will coach teams, manage training, conduct audits, and advance Total Productive Maintenance with EHS pillars, aiming for zero-incident performance and sustainable practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in EH&S, industrial hygiene, engineering, science or related field.
  • 5+ years leading EHS in industrial manufacturing; floor experience preferred.
  • Hands-on safety leadership in a manufacturing environment.
  • ASP or CSP certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and update SIF programs, safety foundations and safety metrics.
  • Implement and monitor EHS action plans and training programs.
  • Coach and mentor plant personnel to build extraordinary leaders.
  • Lead EHS audits, inspections and follow-up.
  • Record and report safety metrics and drive continuous improvement.
  • Support TPM and autonomous maintenance in EHS pillar.
  • Drive ergonomics initiatives and wellness programs.

The Waxahachie Plant Safety Lead is responsible for building a plant and/or department culture with an unconditional stance on safety. The Safety Lead will lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of SIF programs, critical safety, health and Environmental processes/programs/procedures to achieve a zero-injury environment. The successful candidate will provide leadership and apply technical abilities to engage employees at all levels of the organization to develop and sustain world-class safety and environmental process.This position reports to the EHS Leader.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Safety Lead will establish and accomplish aggressive personal, and facility goals that align with division and Owens Corning corporate goals. These goals will reflect a total commitment to developing a strong safety culture, achieving a world-class safety process and the environmentally responsible operation of the facility.The Safety Lead will develop skills and grow capabilities in the assigned facility, including:

  • Develop and update our Critical Six, Safety Foundations and SIF Programs at the plant as main activity for this role.
  • Develop, implement and/or monitor EHS action plans and programs to ensure a high level of safety and environmental awareness within the facility.
  • Coach, mentor and re-direct personnel in the plant to develop Extraordinary Leaders.
  • Translates safety and health strategies into results.
  • Maintain, collaborate and update EHS information (charts, and graphs) and communicate metrics.
  • Develop and implement training programs in a coordinated effort with NLT, EHS Leader and appropriate plant personnel.
  • Maintain all EHS training documentation as required by corporate and federal/state standards.
  • Coordinate necessary EHS audits and inspections as required and ensures follow-up items are completed.
  • Continually reinforce the company’s stand on safety and always recognize employee accomplishments and contributions.
  • Empowers employees to prevent or stop and correct unsafe acts or work conditions.
  • Builds organizational capabilities through people, technology, and process management
  • Assist in recordable injury, first-aid and near-miss investigations and in the development and implementation of action plans.
  • Achievement of personal, department and facility goals.
  • Continuously educate employees on EHS standards and procedures.
  • Perform safety orientations and monthly safety training.
  • Co- Lead and actively participate in the implementation of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) efforts and implementing Autonomous Maintenance (AM) practices and visual metrics for EHS Pillar Team.
  • Drive ergonomics initiatives to reduce MSD illnesses/ injuries.
  • Collaborate and implement wellness programs to meet site needs.
  • Continually reinforce the company’s stand on safety and environmental stewardship and always recognize employee accomplishments and contributions.
  • 100% Completion of training plan and certified competence of all employees trained.
  • Perform other functions related to sustaining the Site Safety and Environmental Programs as directed by the EHS Leader.

Job Requirements
Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in any field related to EH&S, such as industrial hygiene, engineering, science or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience leading EHS efforts in an industrial manufacturing setting. Floor experience is highly desired.
  • Hands-on safety leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • ASP or CSP certification preferred.
Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Demonstrate sound leadership on the job through safety performance, communication skills and teamwork
  • Good organizational skills
  • Strong working Knowledge and technically adept in implementation of OSHA, industrial hygiene and other general industry EHS standards.
  • Comfortable in identification and coaching of unsafe acts or behaviors for both salary and hourly employees
  • Ability to establish agreement and consensus with management
  • Ability to effectively engage primary employees is critical
  • Ability to promote a team environment and must be able to initiate, lead and drive cross-functional team projects to successful completion
  • Adept in developing and delivering safety training
