Komatsu Mining Corp. seeks a Safety Lead to drive and enhance environmental, health, and safety programs across mining sites in Arizona.

You will partner with operations and field personnel to ensure regulatory compliance, deliver trainings, conduct audits, investigate incidents, and foster a strong safety culture. The role requires several years of mining experience, MSHA training (active or prior), and the ability to travel up to 90% across Arizona, including overnights.

Conduct routine site inspections, compliance audits, workplace examinations, and risk assessments.

Coach supervisors and employees on hazard recognition, safe work practices, and critical risk controls.
Participate in contractor safety management processes.
Support emergency response planning, drills, and incident response activities.
Travel to multiple mining locations as needed to support operations.

Job Overview

The Field Service EHS Specialist serves as a key resource for supporting and advancing Environmental, Health, and Safety programs across mining, aggregate, construction, and industrial operations at customer open pit mine sites. This position partners with operations management and field personnel to drive regulatory compliance, schedule trainings, risk reduction, injury prevention, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement initiatives. The successful candidate will provide technical expertise, lead training efforts, conduct audits and investigations, and support the development of a strong safety culture throughout the organization.

This job requires several years' experience working in mining, a prior or active MSHA, as well as the ability to travel across the state of Arizona up to 90% weekly, including overnights.

Key Job Responsibilities

Qualifications/Requirements

Clean driving record
Ability to travel up to 90% across Arizona, including overnights
2+ years working onsite at a mine required
Current or previous MSHA training required

Education

Associate's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related field.
Equivalent combination of education and mining industry experience may be considered.

Experience

Minimum of 4 years of EHS experience in mining, aggregate, quarry, construction, industrial, or heavy manufacturing environments.
Minimum of 4 years supporting MSHA-regulated operations.
Experience conducting incident investigations, compliance audits, risk assessments, and corrective action management.
Experience in developing, scheduling, and delivering employee safety training.

Knowledge and Skills

Strong knowledge of:
- MSHA regulations (30 CFR)
- OSHA standards
- Environmental regulations (EPA)
- DOT transportation requirements
- Risk assessment and hazard identification methodologies
Familiarity with surface and underground mining operations.
Experience using Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methodologies.
Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
Ability to interpret regulations and effectively communicate compliance requirements.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and EHS management systems. Previous EHS, MSHA/Part 48, OSHA, EPA.

Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP)
Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
MSHA Authorized Trainer (Part 48)
Mining industry experience in copper, gold, aggregates, coal, or industrial minerals operations.
Experience with behavior-based safety programs and critical risk management systems.
Bilingual English/Spanish.
