Job summary

Martin Marietta on-site Safety Lead balances operational integrity with world-class customer service. You will be the face of Martin Marietta, ensuring employees return home safely while customers, vendors, and contractors receive exceptional service.

Responsibilities include safety walks, incident investigations, and MSHA compliance, plus coordinating orientations and facilitating site-wide safety meetings to keep operations efficient and safe.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1+ year in Construction, Heavy Building Materials, or Asphalt.
  • 2+ years Aggregate-focused experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of MSHA rules and safety best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Lead site-wide safety walks and inspections to identify hazards.
  • Investigate near-misses or incidents and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure adherence to Guardian Angel safety standards and procedures.
  • Coordinate safety orientations for new hires, contractors, and visitors.

Job description

The Safety Leadacts as a dual-purpose champion for both operational integrity and external relations. This role is uniquely designed to balance 50% proactive safety leadership and 50% high-level customer service. You will be the face of Martin Marietta on-site, ensuring that every employee returns home safely while simultaneously ensuring that every customer, vendor, and contractor receives world-class service. By merging technical safetyexpertisewith a \"customer-first\" mindset, you willfacilitatea culture where compliance and excellence in service gohand-in-hand.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensure site-wide adherence to MSHA and Martin Marietta’s internal \"Guardian Angel\" safety standards.
  • Conduct daily \"high-visibility\" safety walks and inspections to identify and mitigate physical and behavioral hazards.
  • Lead the reporting and investigation of any near-misses or incidents, performing root-cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Review truck washout areas for adequate drainage, walking surface, tracking pad, and lighting.
  • Facilitate site-specific safety orientations for new hires, contractors, and visitors, ensuring they are fully equipped to work safely ininasphalt/industrial environment.
  • Oversee the inspection and maintenance of safety equipment, including PPE, fire suppression systems, and first-aid supplies.
  • Assistmanagement in developing and updating Safe Operating Procedures based on evolving site needs.
  • Facilitate and organize in-house safety meetings.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customers and haulage contractors, resolvinglogisticsissues or site access concerns with professionalism and urgency.
  • Maximize delivery efficiencies through customer focused coordination of site related events.
  • Anticipate the relocation of concrete placement pumps, areas of congestion, and communication with central dispatch as it pertains to the customer’s unload rate, agreed upon “hold” volumes and/or order back yardage.
  • Manage the check-in process for all external parties, ensuring a seamless, welcoming, and safe transition from the gate to the loading zone.
  • Mediate and resolve any disputes or service delays on-site, ensuring customers feel valued even during high-traffic or operational challenges.
  • Represent Martin Marietta’s values in every interaction, building long-term trust with local vendors and community stakeholders.
  • Act as a bridge between the sales team and site operations, providing real-time updates to customersregardingproduct availability and loading times.
  • Proactively gather customer feedbackregardingsite efficiency and safety, reporting insights to the management team to drive continuous improvement.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
  • High school diploma, GED, or relevant experience
  • ACI Field Testing Level I Certificationis highlypreferred.
Work Experience
  • 1+ years of experience in Construction, Heavy Building Material, or Asphalt is required; 2+ years of Aggregate focused experience is preferred.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. for plant maintenance and equipment servicing.
  • Required to bend, stoop, climb, and reach. You must be able tomaintainthree points of contact when climbing on/off machinery or on ladders.
  • Strong hand-eye-foot coordination is essential for operating hand/foot controls. You must have good depthperceptionwith or without seeing aid for distances up to 150 feet.
Working Conditions
  • All duties require outside assignmentsand requireperiods of work in all weather conditions-heat, cold,wetor dry, and dusty. Must be able to work in areas where noise levels are up to 85 dbs.
