Job summary

Granite Construction is offering an internship-focused safety role at our Santa Clara location. You will support the accident prevention program, assist with safety trainings, and help document site inspections in a fast-paced construction environment.

The role requires pursuing a Safety or Occupational Health degree and strong communication skills. Travel to project sites is expected; bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Safety or Occupational Health.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to travel frequently.
• Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Promote compliance with the company safety program and local accident prevention goals.
• Assist in the development and implementation of safety related programs to meet or exceed company safety standards.
• Perform and document jobsite inspections and audits with emphasis on hazard recognition and correction of potential losses.
• Assist in the preparation and performance of safety meetings and training programs for effective policy communication.
• Participate in regulatory agency inspections to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
• Assist in development and review of job hazard analyses for major project phases.
• Assist in the investigation and maintenance of records for third party, asset loss, and workers’ compensation claims.
• Assist with follow-up with the corporate insurance department to ensure timely claim resolution.

General Summary

This position is responsible for assisting in the administration of the accident prevention program and the corresponding laws that relate to the safety of our work, for an assigned location in a manner consistent with company policies and procedures.

Essential Job Accountabilities

• Promote compliance with the company safety program and local accident prevention efforts to ensure company safety goals are met.
• Assist in the development and implementation of safety related programs to meet or exceed company safety standards.
• Perform and document jobsite inspections and audits with special emphasis on hazard recognition, unsafe behaviors and correction of potential third party, asset loss and workers compensation losses.
• Assist in the preparation and performance of safety meetings and training programs to ensure the effective communication of company policy and safety standards.
• Participate in regulatory agency inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
• Assist in the development and review of job hazard analysis for each major phase of our work to ensure its safe completion.
• Assist in the investigation, preparation and maintenance of records of all third party, asset loss, and worker’s compensation claims to make certain that Company interests are preserved.
• Assist in the follow up with the corporate insurance department regarding claims, to ensure that the appropriate information is collected and that claims will be resolved in a timely manner.

Education

• Currently attending Bachelor’s degree program

Physical Demands

The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and must have the ability to climb stairs and ladders in a construction/ plant environment. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds from floor to waist. Specific vision abilities required by this job include at least 20/30 Snellen in one eye and 20/50 in the other, with or without corrective lenses. Adequate hearing, with or without a hearing aid. Base Hourly Wage Range

Hourly: $24.00 $27.00

Pay may vary based upon relevant experience, skills, location, and education among other factors.
