Job summary

Turner Construction's Denver office invites college students to apply for a Seasonal Internship in Environmental Health and Safety. You will assist in implementing safety programs, reporting violations, coordinating safety duties, and supporting training efforts on construction sites and offices.

You'll gain hands-on experience on notable projects, learn about Building LIFE initiatives, and contribute to maintaining safety records while working under supervision.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a college/university program in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or related field with at least one year completed.
• Basic knowledge of safety and environmental principles.
• Desire to learn construction management and safety practices.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team, with attention to detail.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office; data entry skills.
• Willingness to travel limited; reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Assist with implementing Building LIFE (Living Injury Free Everyday) and safety programs on construction projects or office locations.
• Assist with identifying and reporting safety violations or unsafe practices, especially where imminent danger exists.
• Assist with coordinating safety duties for safety committees, preplanning meetings, and toolbox talks.
• Assist with coordinating training at safety meetings, toolbox talks, and orientations.
• Assist with reviewing subcontractor safety programs for completeness and compliance with policies.
• Assist with promoting safe work practices and conditions per regulations and owner requirements.
• Assist with administering drug screening programs per requirements.
• Assist with preconstruction meetings and documenting meetings under supervision.
• Assist with conducting jobsite inspections and developing inspection summaries.
• Assist with maintaining safety records (pre-task plans, JHA, training records, OSHA logs, MSDS, incidents).
• Assist with worker orientation and recording participation.
• Other duties as assigned under supervision.

Position Description:

Assist in activities associated with safety and loss control while working on construction project or office location.

Essential Duties & Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with implementing Building L.I.F.E. (Living Injury Free Everyday) and project safety program while working on construction project or office location and under direction by supervisor.
• Assist with identifying and reporting safety violations or unsafe practices, with emphasis on situations of imminent danger to life or property.
• Assist with coordination of safety duties for safety committees, preplanning meetings, and tool box meetings.
• Assist with coordination of training at safety meetings, tool box meetings, and orientations.
• Assist with reviewing subcontractor safety programs for completeness and compliance with company policies,
• Assist with promoting safe work practices and safe working conditions in accordance with company, Federal, State and Local regulations, and owner/contractual requirements.
• Assist with administration of drug screening program (e.g., pre-employment, post-accident, random, cause) aligned with company and/or client requirements.
• Assist with preconstruction meetings and conducting research. Document meetings under direction of supervisor.
• Assist with conducting jobsite and work area inspections and assist with developing inspection summary.
• Assist with maintaining safety records (e.g., pre-task plans, Job Hazard Analyses, training records, tool box meetings, maintenance of the OSHA 300 log, maintenance of MSDS and chemical inventory sheets, incident investigations and metrics).
• Assist with conducting effective worker orientation program for new employees and administer and record participation.
• Other activities, duties, and responsibilities as assigned and under direction of supervisor.

The salary range for this position is estimated to be 22.00 - 22.00 USD annualized.

Qualifications:

• Enrolled and actively pursuing college or university accredited degree program in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or related field of study, and minimum of 1 year of completed education, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
• Basic knowledge of safety and environmental principles and techniques
• Desire to work in construction management and to learn about construction industry
• Flexible to work standard business hours and overtime as determined by assignment
