Job summary

Nucor, River Metals Recycling division, seeks a Safety Engineer to lead the development, implementation, and management of safety programs across multiple locations. You will establish best-in-class procedures and training, and uphold our safety culture.

Required: at least two years’ experience in safety/supervisory roles, ability to travel; ASP or CSP certification preferred. Strong communication and collaboration with plant managers and regulators are essential.

Qualifications

  • Minimum two years’ work experience in a safety/supervisory role.
  • Ability to travel throughout the assigned region (Some overnight travel required).
  • ASP or CSP certification preferred.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels and regulators.
  • Experience auditing plants and safety processes.

Responsibilities

  • Audit plants/facilities for safety compliance.
  • Work with plant core teams to investigate accidents and incidents.
  • Prepare and present monthly/annual training, and other monthly safety meeting topics.
  • Develop, revise, and implement site-specific safety policies and safe work procedures.
  • Approve safety supplies and PPE for use.
  • Enforce safety rules and foster positive safety attitudes.
  • Ensure documentation and recordkeeping is properly filled out.
  • Recommend safety policy changes to corporate staff.
  • Serve as first contact for OSHA or other safety regulators.
  • Travel within the region as required.

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Working at a multi-location, safety driven scrap metal recycling company, the Safety Engineer has direct responsibility for the development, implementation, and management of best-in-class safety and security standard operating procedures as well as multidimensional training and awareness programs division wide. Safety is at the core of who we are, and we are looking for an enthusiastic and energetic leader to carry on our strong culture of safety.

  • Audit plants/facilities for safety compliance; follow up to correct deficiencies.
  • Work with plant core teams to investigate accidents and incidents.
  • Prepare and present monthly/annual training, and other monthly safety meeting topics.
  • Develop, revise, and implement site-specific safety policies and safe work procedures.
  • Approve safety supplies and personal protective equipment for use.
  • Enforce safety rules and help develop good employee safety attitudes during yard visits.
  • Ensure all documentation andrecordkeeping is properly filled out, including accident logs and investigation reports.
  • Recommend company safety policy changes to corporate staff.
  • Serve as first contact for OSHA or other safety regulators.
  • Minimum twoyears’ work experience in a safety/supervisory role.
  • Ability to travel throughout the assigned region (Some overnight travel required).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to communicate verbally and/or through written communication with all levels of personnel within the Company and with federal, state and local safety regulators.
  • Ability to organize daily tasks and work in a self-directed environment with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to form strong team relationships with plant managers and supervisors.
  • ASP or CSP certification preferred.
  • Experience using personal computers in a work environment for spreadsheet and document presentation. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint preferred.
