Job summary

Vista in Hershey, PA is seeking a Safety Facilitator to work full-time in designated classrooms, partnering with teachers, therapists, and staff to deliver behavioral and adaptive skills programming, ensure safety, and train team members in crisis intervention.

You will support crisis de-escalation, assist with interventions, and help implement safety plans while maintaining professional, compassionate relationships with students and colleagues.

Qualifications

• Associate degree preferred in related-service field.
• Current First Aid and CPR with AED training.
• 1 year of experience with severe behaviors and crisis intervention.
• Completion of Vista's crisis intervention train-the-trainer within 4 months.
• Ability to train and coach staff in crisis prevention/intervention.

Safety Facilitator

Full Time Hershey, PA, US

The Safety Facilitators work closely with designated classroom Special Education Teachers, Behavior Consultants, Occupational Therapists, and Speech Therapists to ensure integrity and fidelity of behavioral and adaptive skills programming. Safety Facilitators develop positive relationships with students within designated classrooms and provide support when students are experiencing precursor or crisis behavior. Safety Facilitators also provides additional support and treatment when typical school and staffing levels are insufficient to address student needs. Safety Facilitators train staff in Vista’s crisis intervention curriculum and maintain certification as a trainer.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Models and engages with students in a compassionate and positive manner that leads to a therapeutic relationship
• Schedules and facilitates debriefs with classroom teams
• Implements instructional programming, as needed to establish rapport and support classroom needs (such as toileting, feeding, showering, etc.)
• Supports and coaches classroom teams when students display signs of escalating behaviors by providing coaching to team members and individual support for the student
• Collaborates with BC in supporting for classroom specific training on crisis plans and implementation of de-escalation strategies specific to student crisis plans
• Collaborates with Behavior Consultant in monitoring implementation of behavior plans and crisis plans for fidelity and accuracy
• Participates in department meetings and school-wide meetings as outlined by school leadership
• Provides feedback and coaching using treatment integrity checklists
• Assures staff and student safety during crisis situations through coaching and, if necessary, taking lead in crises
• Assists with implementation of physical interventions using approved strategies in Vista’s crisis intervention curriculum as needed to maintain safety of students and staff
• Provides coaching to all team members in a supportive and collaborative manner, and receives and implements coaching from others to improve performance
• Conducts all interactions with staff, clients, and internal and external customers in a positive, professional, and caring manner
• Monitors and supplies safety stations around campus
• Assists with the completion of incident management forms
• Monitors and evaluates campus environments for safety using environmental safety checks
• Provides initial and ongoing training in Vista’s crisis intervention curriculum
• Other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position has no supervisory responsibility.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The following positions or frequent movements are typical of the job: sitting, walking, standing, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, stooping, and crawling, often for extended periods of the workday. Assignment may require the ability to physically move clients during possible physical interventions to maintain a safe learning environment.

The position requires that an individual be able to learn new tasks quickly and effectively. Job requirements may change frequently. The ability to understand and carry out detailed, involved instructions is mandatory. The incumbent must be able to travel to multiple locations as needed, when needed to conduct organizational business. Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.

EXPECTED SCHEDULE

This is a full-time position with a 40-hour work week expectation. The Safety Facilitators are required to follow the school calendar, including student days and pre-scheduled in-service days. In addition to the school calendar, Safety facilitators are required to assist with providing new hires with training in Vista’s crisis intervention curriculum over break. The Safety Facilitators may be required to work full break weeks during periods of heavy planning per supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum associate’s degree in related-service field preferred
• Current First Aid and CPR Training required, trained in the use of AED
• Minimum of 1 year of working with severe problematic behaviors and solid understanding of crisis intervention curriculum within Vista
• Successful passing of all components of Vista’s crisis intervention “train the trainer” curriculum within the initial training period (first 4 months of the position)
• Ability to implement, train, and coach other staff on the implementation of services and proper crisis prevention and intervention techniques required

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
