This position is onsite in Moffett Field, California.

Job Overview

The Safety Engineer is responsible for assisting in developing, implementing, and maintaining a safety program that aligns with regulatory systems, contract strategies and organizational policies and procedures. The purpose of the Safety Engineer is to protect the people, the environment, property, and other company, and customer resources. The incumbent advises on changes and their implementation and provides training, tools, and techniques to enable others to achieve safe work practices and environments. The Security Engineer is accountable for partnering with department leaders to identify and train staff on behaviors and workflows that mitigate and manage risk. This position is designed to establish and maintain a strong safety culture through awareness and commitment, while mitigating risk factors, for operations and maintenance; logistics and transportation; construction; and all supporting contract departments.

Salary Range: $91,961-$101,961

Responsibilities
Essential Job Duties:
  • In coordination with the ESH Manager develop, implement, and maintain a safety plan that includes accident prevention and meets contract requirements..
  • Acts as primary point of contact for all safety incidents; maintains accurate, organized, confidential case files.
  • Conducts meetings to investigate incidents, report on findings and recommend actions.
  • Develop, implement, maintain, and inspect the execution of safety and environmental protection plans (JHAs, hazardous material management, lift plans, run off protection, fall protection, SDS management, confined space entry, etc.)
  • Ensure compliance with safety procedures through inspections, training and evaluations while keeping abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization.
  • Ensures a high level of internal and external customer service. Investigates and establishes corrective actions for issues and complaints relating to safety and risk.
  • Engage in frequent communication and coordination with the ESH Manager and other contract staff members. Thereafter, document and implement required safety plan updates.
  • Executes data-driven programs and analyses that identify, measure, and monitor risk and safety exposures. Produce recommendations and implement improvement strategies.
  • Leads preparation and participation in compliance audits; ensures ongoing compliance with processes, policies, recordkeeping, reporting, etc.
  • Effectively and actively utilizes online safety records management database to manage incident, near miss and training records.
  • Execute data-driven programs that identify, measure, and monitor risk and safety exposures.
  • Efficiently and effectively coordinates multiple tasks and/or projects simultaneously.
  • Provides clear and decisive written and oral communication.
  • Maintains a high degree of professionalism and works well with all levels of the organization.
  • Operates Government and Chugach-owned motor vehicles.
  • Adheres to established company safety personnel and standard operating procedures and policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Executing all job activities in a professional and cooperative manner.
  • Ensuring all departmental deliverables (DRDs) are accurate, complete, and submitted on time.
  • Communicating with the Customer and ESH Manager on all work impacts and/or unplanned deviations.
  • Ensuring contract personnel are properly trained.
  • Time sheet review, leave request, counseling, coaching, disciplinary actions and recognition for assigned staff members.
Job Requirements
Mandatory:
  • 5 years of progressive experience with ESH programs.
  • 2 years in an ESH role guiding and directing work activities to ensure safety compliance
  • OSHA 30 Certification (Construction or General Industry)
  • Demonstrated experience in the following:
    • Drafting safety policies, procedures and/or training documents
    • Investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective actions
    • Risk considerations associated with safety plans, work activities, and equipment usage
    • Competence in the application of OSHA policies/plans
    • Use of operational metrics to measure a variety of safety stats and/or cost performance
    • Basic project/task management skills
  • Safety Management Software experience
  • Good working skills in the use of Microsoft Office Suite Programs, particularly Word and Excel
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Mature judgment and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Medically and physically able to wear a respirator.
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds.
  • US Citizenship.
  • Valid state independent driver's license with a suitable driving record.
  • Ability to pass pre-hire background and drug screen.
Preferred:
  • Possess Safety and Risk related certifications, i.e., ASP, CSP, CHST, etc.
  • Possess Train the Trainer safety certifications.
  • Possess a bachelor's degree in a safety or management field of expertise.
