Job description

Safety Engineer I and II – Energy Storage

Mortenson is currently seeking a Safety Engineer I & II to join our Energy Storage group. The role is responsible for implementing Mortenson’s Zero Injury Safety program at a project site and ensuring a safe work environment for team members, subcontractors, and visitors to the construction work site.

Summary

This position offers opportunities at both levels I and II, allowing candidates to apply based on their experience and qualifications. Compensation for this role is determined based on factors such as experience and location.

Responsibilities
  • Implement and administer safety program at each worksite, assist in developing site‑specific safety activities, conduct safety orientation/training
  • Document and track safety violations, conduct safety audits, analyze safety data, assist with major incident analysis, manage OSHA reporting
  • Review safety submittals, monitor trade partner work plans, assist with onsite injury management, organize safety celebrations, participate in project planning/hazard analysis
  • Provide safety‑related information, evaluate industrial hygiene concerns, maintain knowledge of safety standards/regulations, serve as safety resource, attend/chair safety meetings
  • Collaborate with client safety personnel, union representatives, insurance risk engineers, accompany safety/health/OSHA personnel on tours, ensure maintenance of safety equipment, manage PPE and safety budget
  • Build effective relationships with diverse backgrounds and organizational levels
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or associate’s degree in occupational safety, health, or related field preferred
  • OR High school diploma with CHST or STS certification, OSHA 30‑Hour training, and minimum five years of construction experience
  • Previous related internship experience a plus
  • Current driver’s license
  • Detail‑oriented, able to organize and manage multiple project tasks
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety‑related software programs
  • Positive, professional attitude and strong customer service skills
  • Ability to interpret and communicate company policies
  • Strong teamwork, initiative, communication, problem‑solving, and leadership skills
  • Effective public speaking and presentation skills
  • Effective communication and active listening skills, openness to diverse input and feedback, ability to travel up to 100%
  • Must be currently legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship for employment visa status
Safety Engineer I
  • Minimum qualifications: see above
  • The base pay range for this role is $78,800 - $98,500
Safety Engineer II
  • Minimum qualifications: one year of related experience
  • The base pay range for this role is $81,800 - $110,400 (higher for Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%; Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%; Washington, D.C. – 12.5%)
  • This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan
