Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Conduct site safety, health, and environmental assessments.
  • Investigate and resolve non-conformances in coordination with various agencies.
  • Support hazardous operations and perform hazard analyses.

Skills

Familiarity with OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, and/or EPA requirements
Excellent communication, presentation, and customer-facing skills
Strong organizational skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and SharePoint
Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Safety Engineer - Kennedy Space Center

Location: Merritt Island, FL

Status: Full Time

Contract: LASSO II

Clearance: U.S. Citizenship required

Astrion is seeking a Safety Engineer to join our team at the Kennedy Space Center (KSC), supporting the LASSO II Contract. This is a full-time, onsite role where you will ensure mission-critical operations are conducted safely, effectively, and in compliance with LASSO II, NASA, federal, and industry standards. This position is ideal for a safety-conscious, detail-driven professional who thrives in dynamic environments where human spaceflight, cutting-edge technology, and mission success converge.

Required Qualifications / Skills
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • Experience: 5+ years of relevant experience in safety, industrial hygiene, environmental science, or occupational health, preferably within aerospace, DoD, or heavy hazardous environments.
  • Skills:
    • Familiarity with OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, and/or EPA requirements
    • Excellent communication, presentation, and customer‑facing skills.
    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access) and SharePoint.
    • Ability to work independently and in a team environment with minimal supervision.
    • Physical ability to climb stairs/ladders, wear PPE, and work both indoors and outdoors in hazardous operations and laboratory environments.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct site safety, health, and environmental assessments across operational and research programs.
  • Investigate and resolve non‑conformances in coordination with Astrion, NASA, government agencies, and LASSO II project managers.
  • Support hazardous operations including overseeing work involving high‑pressure gases, toxic materials, hypergolic propellants, confined spaces, and work‑at‑height.
  • Review and approve Work Authorization Documents and perform hazard analyses.
  • Maintain safety, environmental, and occupational health program compliance in accordance with federal, NASA, and state standards.
  • Collaborate across multiple disciplines to ensure safe and efficient operations in high‑consequence environments.
  • Contribute to a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement in support of space exploration missions.
