Job summary

Bastion Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Safety Engineer to support the space program in Houston, TX.

The role focuses on ensuring OSHA/EPA/NFPA compliance, mentoring leaders, and implementing the JETS Safety Program across fabrication, laboratories, and operations. Responsibilities include conducting safety audits, developing hazard controls, and performing hazard analyses to safeguard personnel and facilities.

Qualifications

  • This position requires US Citizenship due to the sensitivity of customer related information.
  • Must have a bachelor's degree in engineering and 5+ years of safety engineering experience.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety program implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, NFPA, JSC and state requirements.
  • Mentor management and employees for JETS Safety Program implementation.
  • Develop hazard controls and perform hazard analyses for facilities.
  • Conduct audits, walkthroughs and incident investigations.
  • Provide safety training and periodic reports to management.
  • Coordinate hazardous materials management and sampling of exposures.
  • Assist in procedure development and review technical documents.

Job description

The Safety Engineer will support the space program located in Houston, TX.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Association (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
  • National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA), Johnson Space Center (JSC), and State and local requirements.
  • Act as a mentor to management and employees for the implementation of the JETS Safety Program.
  • Assist in procedure development and review technical documents to ensure compliance with safety requirements.
  • Conduct audits and walk-throughs to ensure organizational compliance with safety program.
  • Provide guidance to operations to ensure safe and environmentally responsible work practices are implemented.
  • Identify and communicate hazards, causes and effects as they apply to fabrication/machining areas and research laboratories.
  • Develop hazard controls and verifications to mitigate identified hazards.
  • Independently analyze and make recommendations for system design, equipment and procedures to control or eliminate hazards.
  • Create hazard analysis products for facility systems used in support of fabrication/machining areas and research laboratories using safety analysis techniques to include System Hazard Analysis and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis.
  • Assistance in the creation of Job Hazard Analysis for tasks performed in fabrication/machining areas, laboratories, and research laboratories.
  • Conduct safety and environmental health related training and design new training classes as needed.
  • Participate in User Readiness Reviews as a subject matter expert.
  • Research, recommend procurement and train employees in the use of personal protective equipment required to mitigate identified workplace hazards.
  • Perform incident investigations to identify root cause and corrective actions.
  • Provide periodic safety reports and briefings to management.
  • Provide program management responsibilities for all safety related programs and initiatives.
  • Perform ergonomic assessments for field and office work environments.
  • Coordinate requirements for compliance with hazardous materials management requirements.
  • Coordinate requests for sampling of workplace exposures for physical and chemical hazards.
  • Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED

  • This position requires US Citizenship due to the sensitivity of customer related information.
  • Must have a bachelor's degree in the field of engineering.
  • Must have 5+ years of recent and direct safety engineering work experience.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations.
DESIRED
  • Direct experience with Incident & Injury Free and Behavior-Based Safety techniques desired.
  • Experience in medical/scientific locations is preferred.
  • MS degree in area of specialty is preferred.
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification is preferred.
WORK LOCATION
  • This position is located onsite and offers a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off; some travel may be required.
  • Schedules are subject to change based on the requirements of the position and/or customer needs.
BACKGROUND INVESTIGATIONS REQUIRED

All Bastion employees must be able to pass a national agency check and some positions require clearance and will require an extensive background verification/check process.

DRUG AND ALCOHOL SCREENING REQUIRED

All Bastion employees must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and are required to participate in periodic random drug and alcohol screenings.

STANDARD BASTION REQUIREMENTS
  • Must have experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and TEAMS.
  • All of Bastion's employees must be team players with strong work ethics and must be culture oriented.
  • Able to communicate effectively, verbally and in written form, with internal and external customers.
  • Able to follow company programs, processes, procedures, practices, requirements, goals, and objectives.
  • Must be organized with good time management skills and must be able to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
  • Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.
  • Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time) and may require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).
  • Regular attendance in accordance with an established work schedule is critical.
