Amentum is seeking an early-career Safety Engineer to support NASA’s JETS II contract at Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX. The role involves serving on a safety team, mentoring staff, and developing procedures to ensure compliance with OSHA and other regulations.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in a related field, 1–2 years of hands-on safety experience, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Requires bachelor’s degree in a related field and 5+ years of safety experience.
• 1–2 years direct, hands-on safety experience preferred.
• Solid knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Serve as an active member of a high-performing safety team, providing safety support across the contract.
• Mentor management and employees, assist with procedure development, and review technical documents to ensure all requirements are met.
• Utilize innovating and engaging techniques and technology platforms for proactive employee engagement in the safety program.
• Identify, assess, and communicate hazards, causes, and effects within industrial and aerospace test environments.
• Provide operational guidance to implement safe, environmentally responsible work practices and operational solutions.
• Independently analyze systems, equipment, and procedures, recommending safety criteria to control or eliminate hazards.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, NFPA, Johnson Space Center, and applicable state and local regulations.
• Conduct compliance audits to verify organizational adherence to requirements.
• Support delivery of regulatory-required training.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Our long term client relationship with NASA has lead to a need for an early-career Safety and Environmental Health Engineer to support the Amentum JETS II Contract offsite and on-site activities at the Johnson Space Center.

The Safety Engineer will:

• Serve as an active member of a high-performing safety team, providing safety support across the contract.
• Mentor management and employees, assist with procedure development, and review technical documents to ensure all requirements are met.

Requisition Qualifications

• Typically requires a bachelor’s degree, and 5+ years of experience.
• Requires 1–2 years of direct, hands‑on safety experience.
• Requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited university.
• Must demonstrate excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Must possess solid working knowledge of OSHA regulations.
• Requires proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Compensation

• Salary starts at $81,200. Final pay will be commensurate with the candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications.

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Attendance

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
