Job summary

Sherwood Construction is seeking a Safety Coordinator to enforce safety standards, conduct site inspections, and facilitate training across multiple job sites in Oklahoma. This safety sensitive role focuses on protecting on-site personnel and the public.

You will investigate incidents, manage corrective actions, maintain records, and ensure regulatory compliance with OSHA, MSHA, and DOT. Travel between sites is required; bilingual in Spanish and English is preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience in heavy civil construction.
• Knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, and DOT regulations.
• OSHA 30/OSHA500, First Aid, CPR, and TECS certifications preferred.
• Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct inspections, testing, and evaluations to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and internal safety standards.
• Assess effectiveness of safety programs and recommend improvements.
• Lead incident investigations using root cause analysis to determine factors and prevent recurrence.
• Develop and implement corrective actions with timely follow-up.
• Maintain accurate records and prepare reports and analyses for management.
• Operate, inspect, calibrate, and oversee safety equipment installation and certification.
• Manage collection, packaging, testing, storage, transport, and disposal of hazardous materials and waste.
• Assist with response during hazardous materials incidents as needed.
• Conduct routine safety walkthroughs and review findings with field supervisors for timely actions.
• Serve as primary contact for field supervisors on health, safety, and environmental matters.
• Deliver ongoing safety training to promote a safety-first culture.
• Manage ordering of safety materials and supplies.
• Foster positive engagement with field personnel to uphold Sherwood's Safety-First Culture.

Job description

The Safety Coordinator is responsible for enforcing safety standards, conducting site inspections, facilitating training, and ensuring regulatory compliance to protect on-site personnel and the public.

This role is classified as safety sensitive.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Conduct inspections, testing, and evaluations of workplace environments, equipment, and procedures to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and internal safety standards.
• Assess the effectiveness of workplace safety and health programs and recommend improvements as needed.
• Lead incident and accident investigations using root cause analysis techniques to determine contributing factors and prevent recurrence.
• Develop and implement corrective actions, ensuring timely follow-up and resolution of safety concerns.
• Maintain accurate records and compile data into reports and statistical analyses for management review.
• Operate, maintain, inspect, calibrate, and oversee the installation and certification of safety equipment.
• Manage the collection, packaging, testing, storage, transportation, and proper disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous materials and waste.
• Assist with response and mitigation efforts during hazardous materials incidents, as necessary.
• Conduct routine safety walkthroughs and review findings with field supervisors to ensure timely corrective actions.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for field supervisors on health, safety, and environmental matters.
• Deliver ongoing safety training to promote a strong culture of workplace safety.
• Manage the ordering of safety materials and supplies to support ongoing operations.
• Foster positive engagement with field personnel to promote and uphold Sherwood's Safety-First Culture.

Required Skills/Abilities/Experience:

• Experience in heavy civil construction strongly preferred
• Knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, and DOT regulations.
• OSHA 30/OSHA500, First Aid, CPR, and TECS certifications preferred
• Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

• Work is performed in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to outdoor elements
• Functions essential to this position include but are not limited to standing, sitting, stooping, bending, walking and lifting heavy objects (50 pounds) during the course of the workday
• Required travel between multiple construction sites
