Job description

Job Summary

The Safety Coordinator is responsible for implementing, administering, maintaining and coordinating all IES safety policies and programs, including safety training and inspections for the assigned project and others as needed. The role ensures compliance with all IES and Site/Customer safety policies, procedures, and federal and state standards. It also develops and manages safety and health initiatives aimed at preventing occupational incidents, injuries and illnesses. EMT or higher credentials are strongly preferred.

Responsibilities
  1. Fully support all IES and Site/Customer safety policies, procedures and programs in accordance with federal and state standards.
  2. Ensure implementation and compliance with IES Safety Policies, Procedures and Programs within the Communications Division and site‑specific policies.
  3. Perform safety presentations and develop related training.
  4. Schedule and perform documented job‑site safety audits/inspections to determine compliance with all IES and Site/Customer policies and federal/state safety standards.
  5. Oversee and maintain activities involving confined space entry, including required documentation and training.
  6. Identify potential hazards, develop safety action plans to correct non‑compliance issues, and work with operations and management for implementation.
  7. Develop processes and plans to reduce or eliminate hazards and safety incidents.
  8. Deliver safety new‑employee orientation (NEO), OSHA 10/30‑hour and other safety training as required by IES, Site/Customer, OSHA, state or local standards.
  9. Coordinate safety training for management and field personnel in accident prevention techniques, compliance with IES safety policies, procedures, and programs, and federal and state standards.
  10. Prepare written reports and summaries to provide concise, meaningful information regarding safety audits, investigations and issues.
  11. Conduct and coordinate root‑cause investigations on recordable incidents, near‑misses and vehicle incidents.
  12. Use the root‑cause analysis to help operations identify and implement corrective actions to prevent future recurrence of similar incidents.
  13. Take the lead in any OSHA inspection process as defined in the IES Safety Manual Section 18 and effectively communicate with project stakeholders.
  14. Maintain safety‑related records and reports.
  15. Teach, counsel and mentor stakeholders to uphold the IES safety culture.
  16. Coordinate activities with and support site management.
  17. Other responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum USD 35.00 / Hr. — Maximum USD 45.00 / Hr.

Qualifications
  • Self‑motivated, positive, professional, and able to lead project process improvement initiatives.
  • Promotes company culture and mission to all employees, vendors, clients, and partners.
  • Acts as the company liaison for interfaces with customers, vendors, contractors, and IES representatives.
  • Possesses proven problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills; effective reading, writing, and oral presentation abilities.
  • Able to travel within branch or regional territory as needed.
  • Has manual dexterity, flexibility, and visual acuity required for inspection functions (walking, climbing, squatting, lifting, bending, twisting, etc.).
  • Can lift 50 lbs. and correctly distinguish applicable codes, colors, and symbols.
  • Maintains body equilibrium and agility to prevent falls during walking, standing, crouching, ascending, or descending stairs.
  • Flexible in bending at the waist, knees, and extending arms and hands repetitively.
  • Capable of learning company and customer computer systems.
  • Ensures regular and reliable job attendance.
  • Education: Minimum High School diploma or GED equivalency; Associate degree or higher preferred.
  • EMT or higher credentials preferred.
  • Minimum of five (3) years of experience in construction safety, preferably in telecommunications or electrical industry.
  • Knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Safety and Health Regulations for Construction.
  • Knowledge and experience with Confined Space Entry Standards 1926.1200 Subpart AA preferred.
  • Current status as an Authorized OSHA OTI 500 Construction Outreach Trainer.
  • CHST (Construction Health/Safety Technician) certification or equivalent preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer knowledge and experience utilizing MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Detail‑oriented with high‑level organizational skills.
  • Effective communication with project stakeholders, including field personnel, IES management, and customer interfaces.
  • Ready to respond to all safety emergency situations with or without advance notice.
  • Meets company minimum driving standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.
