Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking a Safety Specialist to support a safe work environment by conducting inspections, documenting incidents and coordinating safety programs and training. You will ensure OSHA compliance, maintain extensive safety records, and provide emergency response support as needed.

Qualifications include a safety-focused degree and 1+ year of relevant experience; CPR/First Aid and OSHA certifications are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Safety/Health or related field or equivalent experience.
• 1+ year of relevant safety experience.
• CPR and First Aid; OSHA 500/CHST/ASP preferred.
• Strong verbal/written communication and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of OSHA CFR 1926 standards.

Responsibilities

• Conduct inspections of sites to ensure OSHA compliance.
• Document incidents and coordinate safety programs and training.
• Report concerns to safety management and promote corrective actions.
• Maintain safety documentation: inspections, accident reports, training logs.
• Provide emergency response support and assist investigations as needed.
• Mentor less-experienced safety staff and assist with training material development.

Job description

Position Summary

This role supports a safe work environment by conducting inspections, documenting incidents, and coordinating safety programs and training.

Position Details

• Tours and inspects smaller, less-complex job sites to ensure compliance with company, state and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
• Reports concerns to safety management.
• Ensures health and safety standards are met by coordinating, promoting and conducting various programs and activities related to the safety management system.
• Documents safety inspections, citing dangerous areas/procedures and recommending corrective procedures. Provides recommendations for correcting non-compliance issues.
• Ensures cited issues are corrected within designated timeframe.
• Maintains all site required documentation related to safety issues, including accident reports, inspection reports and training logs. Reviews daily job hazard logs and takes action as required.
• Provides emergency response to employees as needed. Documents information for the investigation of accidents and injuries and submits data to regulatory agencies as required.
• Serves as mentor to less-experienced Safety employees.
• Assists with development of training materials and coordinates and facilitates employee training as necessary.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Health or Environmental Applied Sciences or related discipline, or equivalent education, training and/or experience
• 1+years of relevant experience
• CPR and First Aid, OSHA 500/CHST/ASP certification preferred
• OSHA 10hr, OSHA 30hr, OSHA 40hr training preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs): List no more than six (6) essential KSAs, including system-relevant technical skills.
• Solid working knowledge of health and safety management systems; OSHA CFR 1926 standards or the state construction safety regulations
• Solid verbal and written communication skills
• Solid problem solving skills
• Solid customer service and organizational skills
• Solid computer skills-experience with Microsoft Office suite and ability to access OSHA information via the internet
• Solid knowledge of safety operating processes and procedures
