Job Description:Safety Coordinator

Location:Texas, USA
Department: Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) / Operations
Reports To: EHS & ISO Manager at WAM USA
Employment Type: Full-Time, Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Pay (Range): $22.00/HR

Position Overview

The Safety Coordinator is responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment by supporting the implementation and administration of the company's Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs. This position ensures compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and applicable federal, state, and local safety requirements.

The Safety Coordinator will work to identify workplace hazards, reduce risks, investigate incidents, and foster a culture of safety throughout the facility. The role plays a key part in driving continuous improvement initiatives aimed at preventing injuries, protecting employees, and maintaining regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and all applicable health, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and hazard assessments of facility operations.
  • Monitor workplace conditions and recommend corrective or preventive actions to eliminate unsafe practices and conditions.
  • Coordinate and conduct new employee safety orientations and ongoing safety training.
  • Facilitate toolbox talks, safety meetings, and employee awareness programs.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture through employee engagement and participation.
  • Investigate workplace injuries, illnesses, property damage incidents, and near misses.
  • Perform root cause analysis and report findings to the EHS Manager.
  • Track and monitor corrective actions to ensure timely completion.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the EHS Manager to support departmental and company operations.

Required Work Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of safety experience in a manufacturing, industrial, warehouse, distribution, or related environment.
  • Experience conducting safety inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
  • Basic understanding of hazard identification and risk assessment methodologies.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with employees at all organizational levels.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
  • 1 – 3 years’ experience in environmental safety.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus

Education Requirements

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED.

Preferred

  • Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in:
  • Occupational Health and Safety
  • Environmental Science Or related fields
  • OSHA 10-Hour (within the first 6 months if not already certified)

Preferred Certifications

  • OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Certification
  • Forklift Trainer certification (preferred but not required)
  • First Aid / CPR / AED Certification

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Basic understanding of OSHA regulations and workplace safety standards.
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.

Work Hours

Typical Schedule:

  • Monday through Friday
  • 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
  • Occasional overtime as needed to support production schedules, investigations, audits, training activities, or emergency situations.

Additional Requirements:

  • Availability to work flexible hours when necessary.
  • Ability to support occasional weekend operations and special projects.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing and warehouse environment.
  • Frequent walking throughout the facility.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods during inspections and training sessions.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
