We are looking for an experienced Safety Coordinator with experience working in Utility (transmission, distribution, and substation) Construction, to help us minimize the risk of job-related accidents. Our Safety Coordinators work closely with field staff, customers, subcontractors, and management. The right candidate will be committed to the adherence of safety-related policies, procedures, regulations, and personal and professional development.

This position requires travel throughout the state of Texas and surrounding areas.

You will monitor field operations to eliminate hazardous activities. Safety Coordinators should be well-versed in all OSH (occupational safety & health) dictations. Your work will be focused on prevention, so you need to be diligent and analytical. You will possess a keen eye for detail and a sensitivity for potential dangers. The goal is to support the creation of a healthy and safe workplace.

Responsibilities
  • Advise on provisions to minimize safety risks
  • Conduct on-site safety inspections, observations, investigations, and regulatory compliance for OSHA and DOT
  • Coordinate with operation teams to create site-specific safety plans and participate in safety meetings to review any site exposures/hazards
  • Communicate, coach, and train crews on the current HSE work practices and rules, policies, and procedures
  • Prepare reports for management team reviews on observations pertaining to work activities, investigations, employee injuries, and property/utility damage incidents
  • Follow up with operations organization to ensure completion of corrective actions for all accidents and incidents
  • Keep records of safety-related incidents and propose corrective actions
  • Organize and conduct OSH training plans
  • Collaborate with managers to monitor compliance and identify safety issues
  • Intervene in unsafe activities or operations
  • Regular and predictable attendance
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Essential functions of this position are to be performed at a Company-designated office or field location
  • Understand and comply with the Company’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and other industry-specific professional and ethical conduct standards
Skills/Requirements/Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a safety coordinator in the power line construction industry required
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent is required
  • Minimum of one (1) safety certification is preferred, examples include: Certified Safety and Health Official (CSHO), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), Safety Management Specialist (SMS), Specialist in Safety and Health (SSH), or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Undergraduate degree in Safety Management or related field preferred; combination of relevant experience and education considered in lieu of degree
  • In-depth knowledge of OSH guidelines and practices
  • Experience in reporting and developing policies
  • OSHA 30 Training
  • CUSP certification or OSHA training certification
  • Experience in implementing OSH training programs
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Excellent communication and advisory skills
  • Diligent with an analytical mind
  • MVR qualifies individual to be an approved company driver
