Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking a Safety Coordinator to support the Safety Manager in planning, coordinating and implementing safety, health and environmental programs across our sites. The role ensures compliance with OSHA rules and internal standards, and promotes a safe, incident-free work environment for employees.

Responsibilities include site tours, reporting concerns, maintaining documentation, and delivering safety training and orientation for new hires.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred in safety, health or environmental applied sciences or related discipline.
• 2–4 years of related field experience.
• OSHA 10hr & 30hr required; OSHA 40hr preferred.
• CPR and First Aid certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Tours and inspects job sites to ensure OSHA compliance.
• Reports concerns to safety management.
• Coordinates and conducts safety programs and training activities.
• Documents inspections and cites dangerous areas with corrective actions.
• Maintains site safety documentation (accidents, inspections, training).
• Reviews daily hazard logs and acts on findings.
• Provides emergency response and supports investigations.
• Assists with training material development and new-hire safety orientation.

Job description

Position Summary

The Safety Coordinator will assist the Safety Manager by planning, coordinating and implementing Southland’s safety, health and environmental protection programs, ensuring compliance with corporate safety standards and industry regulations, and promoting a safe, incident-free work environment for employees.

Position Details

• Tours and inspects small to mid-size job sites independently to ensure compliance with company, state and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
• Reports concerns to safety management.
• Ensures health and safety standards are met by coordinating, promoting and conducting various programs and activities related to the safety management system.
• Documents safety inspections, citing dangerous areas/procedures and recommending corrective procedures.
• Provides recommendations for correcting non-compliance issues. Ensures cited issues are corrected within designated timeframe.
• Maintains all site required documentation related to safety issues, including accident reports, inspection reports and training logs.
• Reviews daily job hazard logs and takes action as required.
• Provides emergency response to employees as needed. Participates in and documents information for the investigation of accidents and injuries and submits data to regulatory agencies as required.
• Assists with development of training materials and coordinates and facilitates employee training as necessary.
• Conducts Safety Orientation for new hires

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in safety, Health or Environmental Applied Sciences or related discipline preferred.
• 2-4 years’ experience in related field.
• Certifications in CPR and First Aid preferred.
• OSHA 10hr, OSHA 30hr required, OSHA 40hr training preferred.
• OSHA 500, CHST or ASP certifications preferred.
• Strong working knowledge of health and safety management systems; OSHA CFR 1910 and 1926 standards or the state construction safety regulations.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Strong customer-service and organizational skills.
• Strong computer skills-experience with Microsoft Office suite and ability to access OSHA information via the internet.
• Good knowledge of safety operating processes and procedures
