Job summary

HNM Systems is seeking a hands-on Safety Coordinator to support a large-scale construction project in Abilene, TX. You will work with field crews, subcontractors, and project leadership to maintain a safe, productive, and compliant work environment.

The role combines field presence with inspections, JHAs, toolbox talks, and incident reporting. Start times are early, and candidates should have construction/field experience and OSHA 30 or similar certifications.

Qualifications

Overview

Our customer is seeking a hands-on Safety Coordinator to support a large-scale construction project in Abilene, Texas. This individual will work closely with field employees, labor partners, subcontractors, project leadership, and customer representatives to help maintain a safe, productive, and compliant work environment.

This is a field-focused position that combines daily interaction with crews and project stakeholders with compliance activities, inspections, safety documentation, reporting, and corrective action tracking. The successful candidate will help reinforce safe work practices while building trust and credibility with the teams performing the work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as an onsite safety resource supporting field crews, subcontractors, labor partners, and project leadership.
  • Maintain a consistent presence in the field and develop productive working relationships with onsite personnel.
  • Conduct site walks, safety observations, inspections, compliance reviews, and audits.
  • Identify hazards and work collaboratively with crews to correct unsafe conditions and behaviors.
  • Support Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), toolbox talks, pre-task planning, and daily safety discussions.
  • Monitor compliance with PPE requirements, fall protection standards, ladder safety, aerial lift safety, electrical safety requirements, and project-specific procedures.
  • Support safe work activities in environments such as rooftops, lifts, ladders, IDF rooms, electrical rooms, data centers, and active construction sites.
  • Maintain safety documentation, inspection records, corrective action logs, and compliance reporting.
  • Participate in safety meetings with project teams, customers, and General Contractors.
  • Assist with incident reporting, near-miss reporting, investigations, documentation, and follow-up activities.
  • Reinforce safe work practices through coaching, communication, and proactive engagement with field personnel.
  • Balance fields support responsibilities with documentation, auditing, and compliance activities.
  • Escalate significant safety concerns to project leadership when appropriate.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Experience working in commercial construction, field operations, telecommunications, low-voltage systems, electrical trades, or a related field environment.
  • Practical understanding of active construction sites, field hazards, and safe work practices.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with field crews, subcontractors, customers, General Contractors, and project leadership.
  • Comfortable working around rooftops, ladders, aerial lifts, electrical rooms, IDF rooms, data centers, and active construction environments.
  • Strong observational, organizational, documentation, and follow-through skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of safety concerns while appropriately escalating issues when necessary.
  • Comfortable supporting an early construction-site schedule beginning between approximately 6:00 AM and 7:00 AM.
  • Willingness to learn company-specific safety procedures, compliance requirements, and documentation processes.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous Safety Coordinator, construction safety, EHS, field supervision, or safety-related experience.
  • Telecommunications, DAS, BDA, low-voltage, electrical, or data-center construction experience.
  • OSHA 30 certification.
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Familiarity with:

  • RF awareness and exposure considerations
  • Grounding and bondingJob Hazard Analyses and pre-task planning

OSHA 30 and CPR/First Aid certifications are preferred but not required. Training and certification support may be available for strong candidates.

Work Environment / Additional Information
  • Primary project located in Abilene, TX.
  • Approximately four days per week onsite, with Fridays typically reserved for administrative or remote activities.
  • Early construction-site start times, generally beginning between 6:00 AM and 7:00 AM.
  • Work environments include active commercial construction sites, rooftops, data centers, electrical rooms, telecommunications spaces, aerial lifts, and ladder-access areas.
  • Local candidates are not expected to travel during the current project assignment.
  • Long-term willingness to travel up to four days per week in support of future projects is strongly preferred.
  • Regular overtime and weekend work are not currently anticipated.
