Job summary

The Bachrach Group is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety professional to support the development, implementation, and evaluation of workplace safety programs in our Mentor, Ohio location. You will help ensure OSHA, DOT, and environmental compliance across facilities, with a focus on hazardous materials handling and HazCom programs.

You will conduct inspections, train staff, and collaborate with EHS leadership to address hazards, investigate incidents, and drive corrective actions.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience in environmental health and safety, industrial safety, compliance, or related field.
• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Environmental Science, or related discipline preferred.
• Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety compliance requirements.
• Familiarity with DOT hazardous materials regulations under 49 CFR, including classification, packaging, labeling, placarding, documentation, and UN IDs.
• Experience supporting OSHA Hazard Communication programs and maintaining SDS records.
• Knowledge of environmental compliance, including wastewater management and federal/state/local requirements.
• Willingness to travel domestically approximately 10%.
• Strong written, verbal, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Support the development, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of workplace safety programs designed to reduce incidents, injuries, and associated costs.
• Help ensure company practices comply with applicable federal, state, and local OSHA requirements, DOT regulations, environmental standards, and other applicable safety codes.
• Oversee compliance related to the handling, classification, packaging, labeling, storage, and transportation of hazardous materials in accordance with DOT requirements.
• Verify proper use of UN identification numbers, hazard classifications, shipping papers, labels, placards, and other required HazMat documentation.
• Maintain and organize Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and support the company's Hazard Communication program to ensure employees have access to current chemical hazard information.
• Assist with environmental compliance activities, including wastewater management, chemical handling, waste storage, treatment coordination, and disposal.
• Support hazardous waste management activities and ensure materials are properly stored, documented, handled, and disposed of in accordance with applicable regulations.
• Conduct facility safety and environmental inspections, audits, and program reviews; document findings and assist with corrective action planning.
• Partner with EHS leadership and department managers to address identified hazards and track corrective actions through completion.
• Support fire prevention, emergency preparedness, and fire protection activities throughout the workplace.
• Investigate workplace injuries, accidents, spills, chemical exposures, and hazardous material incidents; assist with root-cause investigations and corrective action implementation.
• Deliver safety and compliance training covering general workplace safety, chemical hazards, HazCom, SDS requirements, hazardous materials handling, DOT transportation requirements, emergency procedures, and job-specific risks.
• Provide safety orientation and required training to new employees and support refresher training for existing personnel.
• Monitor changes to OSHA, DOT, EPA, wastewater, hazardous waste, and other applicable regulations and communicate relevant updates to management and employees.
• Assist with regulatory inquiries, inspections, and requests from agencies such as OSHA, DOT, EPA, and applicable state or local authorities.
• Identify potential safety and environmental risks associated with equipment, processes, facilities, chemical use, and waste handling and provide recommendations for risk reduction.
• Work with EHS leadership, operations, engineering, and other departments during equipment, facility, process, and work-method changes to ensure appropriate safety and environmental considerations are incorporated.
• Promote a proactive reporting culture by encouraging employees and supervisors to promptly report unsafe conditions, injuries, spills, exposures, and environmental concerns.
• Maintain accurate EHS records, including inspection results, training documentation, incident reports, SDS records, HazMat shipping records, and other compliance documentation.
• Prepare and maintain required safety, environmental, hazardous materials, and wastewater-related reports.
• Assist with maintaining and utilizing EHS/LMS software and related compliance systems.
• Perform additional EHS-related duties and projects as assigned.

• Experience with hazardous waste handling and disposal is preferred.
• Strong written, verbal, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
• Comfortable communicating and collaborating with employees, supervisors, managers, and senior leadership.
• Ability to effectively prioritize multiple projects and respond to changing operational needs.
• Strong judgment and the ability to make sound decisions in time-sensitive situations.
• Ability to interpret safety, hazardous materials, and environmental requirements and translate them into practical workplace procedures.
• Comfortable presenting training and responding to questions from employees at various levels of the organization.
• Demonstrated ability to respond appropriately to workplace emergencies, including chemical spills, hazardous material releases, injuries, and other incidents.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel; familiarity with Visio or similar programs is beneficial.
• Ability to communicate effectively in the primary language(s) used within the workplace.
• Bilingual or multilingual communication skills are a plus.
• Willingness to travel domestically approximately 10% as needed.
