Job summary

Blue Origin seeks a senior SEIT engineer for system safety, reliability, and risk work on the New Glenn program. You will develop processes and products for design and evaluation of the vehicle and facilities, collaborating across subsystems to deliver integrated solutions.

Requires a BS in engineering, 8+ years in integrated systems, and strong knowledge of system safety and reliability methods. On-site work in WA, CO, or FL offices with a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion.

  • BS in engineering or related field.
  • 8+ years of professional experience within integrated systems.
  • Experience with system engineering principles.
  • Experience in at least one of the areas of analysis, design, or integrated testing.
  • Engineering experience in fluids, thermal, propulsion, avionics, electrical hardware, telemetry/communications, structural, ground operations or flight/ground autonomy.
  • Possess strategic and proactive thinking and ability to communicate within timelines.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible to work in the U.S.

Job description

This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable. As part of a small team, you will work on New Glenn at the system level for the New Glenn Program. We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required! As part of the New Glenn SEIT system safety, reliability and risk team, you will work to develop processes and products for the design and evaluation of the New Glenn orbital launch vehicle system and facilities. You must have a passion for mission assurance, a commitment to the fundamentals of system safety, and a strong capacity to work collaboratively on complex and interesting new problems. You will be part of the SEIT system engineering team and will work across the New Glenn subsystems to support integrated solutions.

Must be on-site full-time in WA, FL, or CO offices.

Responsibilities
  • Create, evaluate, and perform reviews of system safety and reliability analyses including Hazard Assessments, FMECAs/HAZOPs, Fault Trees, Common Cause Assessments, Reliability Predictions, Reliability Block Diagrams, Human Error Assessments, and Hazard Sheets.
  • Evaluate safety products and requirements for compliance with our system safety processes and products against internal and external standards including Range Safety, NASA, FAA, MIL-STD-882, or ARP-4761.
  • Implement and maintain system safety processes and identify continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Train and mentor engineers on identifying and analyzing system safety risks.
  • Work with systems engineering and subsystem cognizant engineers to identify and verify compliance with system safety requirements.
  • Assist in generating metrics and report on program system safety statuses.
  • Foster and maintain a healthy culture of system safety for New Glenn.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering or related field.
  • 8+ years of professional experience within integrated systems.
  • Experience with system engineering principles.
  • Experience in at least one of the areas of analysis, design, or integrated testing.
  • Engineering experience in at least one of the following areas: fluids, thermal, propulsion, avionics, electrical hardware, telemetry/communications, structural, ground operations or flight/ground autonomy.
  • Possess strategic and proactive thinking as well as the ability to communicate effectively while working within set timelines.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working within large development programs.
  • Ability to thrive in a highly dynamic and fast paced environment.
  • System development/integration experience, preferably with aerospace hardware.
  • Knowledge of current systems engineering/integration tools as well as corresponding methodologies.
  • 3+ years of system safety/reliability experience performing FHAs, FMEA/FMECAs, FTAs, CCAs, Reliability Predictions, RBDs.
  • Experience performing compliance assessments and tailoring FAA/Range Safety launch system requirements.
  • Experience with a variety of complex aerospace or launch vehicle systems.
  • Professional history of successful process ownership.
Base Pay Range for
  • CA applicants is $145,188.00 - $203,263.20.
  • CO applicants is $133,500.00 - $186,898.95.
  • WA applicants is $145,188.00 - $203,263.20.
  • Other site ranges may differ.
