Job summary

Tripoli Community School District is seeking dependable Substitute Bus Drivers to provide safe and reliable transportation for students when regular drivers are unavailable. The district may assist with obtaining a CDL and endorsements.

A valid CDL with the required school bus endorsements is needed or must be obtained. Essential duties include operating the bus safely, following routes and schedules, inspecting vehicles, and maintaining student behavior.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain/maintain CDL with school bus endorsements.
• Meet state requirements for school bus drivers, including physical exams and screenings.
• Demonstrated responsibility, dependability, and sound judgment.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and district personnel.
• Ability to maintain appropriate student behavior and enforce safety rules.
• Commitment to student safety, punctuality, and professionalism.

Responsibilities

• Operate a school bus safely and in accordance with laws, regulations, and district policies.
• Follow bus routes and schedules for regular routes, activities, athletic events, and field trips.
• Maintain student behavior on the bus and report disciplinary concerns.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report issues promptly.
• Keep the interior of the bus clean and orderly.
• Notify Transportation Scheduler of delays, scheduling concerns, or safety issues.
• Load and discharge students only at authorized stops; transport only authorized passengers.
• Maintain a safe and orderly environment during loading, transport, and unloading.
• Exercise sound judgment and leadership when transporting students on district trips.
• Follow procedures for student supervision, bus safety, and emergencies.
• Report accidents or safety concerns and complete required documentation.
• Enforce district bus regulations and promote student safety, cleanliness, and security.
• Maintain licenses, endorsements, and physical qualifications required to operate a school bus.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Transportation Scheduler or Superintendent.
