Job summary

General Motors LLC seeks an experienced manufacturing engineering leader to oversee a team of process engineers and drive program milestones across new products.

You will guide cost targets, develop manufacturing processes, and coordinate with plant and engineering teams to ensure successful launches and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated understanding of plant-floor operations and design for manufacturability.
  • Ability to travel.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day activities of a team of 4–6 process engineers, setting objectives and coaching performance.
  • Meet program timing requirements and milestones.
  • Meet program cost targets and maintain cost accuracy.
  • Lead development and implementation of program-specific manufacturing processes.
  • Support the Launch Wall process through Manufacturing Validation Build Plan and PPAP.
  • Interface with plant personnel and cross-functional teams on new programs.
  • Analyze first-time-quality data and optimize processes using statistical tools like Red X and DOE.
  • Develop process documentation such as PFMs, CPs, and FMEAs.
  • Oversee PPAP and GP-12 activities and provide technical direction to engineers.
  • Support continuous-improvement projects to enhance safety, quality, reliability, and cost.
  • Travel to GM plants for launch support; 25–30% within the U.S. and Mexico.

Job description

What you’ll do
  • Manage the day-to-day activities of a team of 4–6 process engineers, including setting objectives, managing results, and evaluating and coaching individual performance.
  • Meet program timing requirements and PTC milestones.
  • Meet program cost targets and maintain cost accuracy.
  • Lead the development and implementation of program-specific manufacturing processes.
  • Support the Launch Wall process through the Manufacturing Validation Build Plan and PPAP.
  • Interface with plant personnel, Central Manufacturing Engineering personnel, and Product Engineering teams on new programs and projects.
  • Analyze first-time-quality data and optimize processes using statistical tools such as Red X and Design of Experiments.
  • Develop process documentation for new products and processes, including Process Flow Diagrams, Process Control Plans, and Process Failure Mode and Effects Analyses.
  • Oversee and help coordinate PPAP and GP-12 activities.
  • Provide technical direction to less-experienced process engineers.
  • Support Business Plan Deployment initiatives and coordinate engineering activities to achieve business-plan objectives.
  • Provide technical direction to and oversight of outside vendor sources.
  • Support continuous-improvement projects at plant sites to improve Safety, People, Quality, Reliability, and Cost performance.
  • Travel to GM plants to provide launch support and meet other business needs; expected travel is approximately 25–30% within the United States and Mexico.
Required qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Ten or more years of manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of plant-floor operations and design for manufacturability.
  • Ability to travel.
Preferred qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop direct reports.
  • Two or more years of supervisory experience preferred.
  • In-depth experience with transmission systems highly preferred.
