Job description

The Rural Transit & Traffic Safety Trainer (the trainer) is responsible for planning, developing, coordinating, and delivering high-quality training programs that primarily support Nebraska's rural public transportation systems funded through the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) Sections 5310 and 5311 programs. The trainer works closely with and reports to the Assistant Director - Trainings to ensure consistent, effective, and compliant statewide training and to support additional Nebraska Safety Center traffic safety initiatives, including driver education and motorcycle safety programs.

Using established adult learning principles, the trainer develops instructional materials, facilitates classroom and virtual instruction, evaluates participant performance, maintains training records, and assists with quality assurance and continuous improvement of curricula. The trainer also serves as a representative of the Nebraska Safety Center by building relationships with transit agencies, community partners, and state and national organizations.

This position is responsible for maintaining compliance with all applicable policies and procedures of the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT), and the University of Nebraska.

The Rural Transit & Traffic Safety Trainer reports to the Assistant Director - Trainings. The position is based in Lincoln, Nebraska, on Innovation Campus and requires up to 30% travel, occasional nights and weekends, primarily throughout Nebraska with occasional out-of-state travel for conferences and professional development.

The following certifications must be obtained within six months of hire if not already held:

  • Community Transportation Association of America (CTAA) Passenger Assistance Safety and Sensitivity (PASS) Instructor
  • First Aid/CPR Instructor
Preferred Qualifications:

Three years of experience related to

  • Rural public transportation, transit operations, mobility management, or transportation safety.
  • Developing curricula or instructional materials.
  • Using learning management systems or online training platforms.

Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) RiderCoach or equivalent motorcycle instructor certification.
