Job summary

United States Postal Service in Athens, Tennessee (or Niota) seeks a Rural Carrier Associate/Special Route Employee Services. Non-Exempt, non-career role with hours that vary; salary is $19.94 per hour, paid bi-weekly. Requires U.S.

citizenship or eligible status, a valid driver’s license with a clean record, and ability to work as-needed. Duties include mail routing, deliveries, stamps and money orders, and customer assistance. Position may involve working at surrounding post offices.

Qualifications

• U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien, citizen of American Samoa or any U.S. territory.
• Valid state driver’s license with a clean driving record and at least two years of unsupervised driving of passenger cars or larger vehicles.
• Must possess a right-hand side vehicle.
• Available to work on an as-needed basis.

Responsibilities

• Sort and arrange mail in delivery sequence for the assigned route.
• Receive and sign for accountable mail; load mail into vehicle.
• Deliver mail to customers along the prescribed route, collect monies and receipts, and pick up mail from roadside boxes.
• Sell stamps, stamped paper, and money orders; accept C.O.D., registered, certified, insured mail, and parcel post.
• Provide routine information and requested forms to customers.
• Return collected, undeliverable, and forwarded mail, and submit monies and receipts to the post office.
• Prepare mail for forwarding, maintain change-of-address records, prepare daily trip reports, and maintain a list of customers on the route.
• Conduct special surveys when required, maintain inventory of stamps and stamped paper, and provide mail security at all times.
