Responsibilities

  • Perform general labor and move/transport RT equipment as needed.
  • Maintain clean, organized work areas and proper care of RT gear.
  • Follow radiation safety requirements and client procedures.
  • Learn RT techniques, industry codes, and safety practices under guidance.
  • Assist with equipment inspections and verification activities.
  • Complete training hours toward NDE/RT certifications.
  • Perform other duties to support field operations and NDE projects.

RT Assistant

Full Time Operations Houston, TX, US

The Assistant Radiographic Testing (RT) Technician supports certified Nondestructive Examination (NDE) Technicians in performing radiographic inspections of welds, piping, equipment, and other components to identify discontinuities and verify compliance with applicable industry codes, standards, and client specifications.

This entry-level position provides hands on support with RT equipment setup, job site preparation, material handling, radiation safety controls, and inspection activities while gaining the training and experience necessary to advance within the NDE/RT field. All radiographic activities are performed under the direction and supervision of qualified personnel and in accordance with company radiation safety procedures and applicable regulatory requirements.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist certified RT Technicians with the setup, positioning, operation, and breakdown of radiographic testing equipment and related inspection materials.
  • Prepare work areas, components, tools, and equipment for radiographic inspection activities.
  • Assist with positioning film, imaging media, identification markers, image quality indicators (IQIs), and other materials used during radiographic examinations.
  • Support the establishment and maintenance of controlled areas, barricades, signage, and other radiation safety measures under the direction of qualified personnel.
  • Handle, transport, organize, and maintain RT equipment and inspection materials in accordance with company procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with film processing, digital radiography activities, image handling, and inspection documentation as applicable to the project.
  • Maintain accurate identification and traceability of radiographs, components, welds, and associated inspection documentation.
  • Perform general labor duties, including moving, loading, unloading, and positioning RT equipment and materials.
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and proper care of RT equipment, vehicles, tools, and work areas.
  • Follow all radiation safety requirements, company policies, client procedures, and applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Properly use assigned radiation monitoring devices and personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Learn applicable RT techniques, industry codes, standards, procedures, and radiation safety practices under the guidance of certified technicians.
  • Assist with equipment inspections, operational checks, and verification activities as directed by qualified personnel.
  • Complete required classroom instruction and on-the-job training (OJT) hours toward applicable NDE/RT certifications and qualifications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support field operations and NDE projects.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Previous NDE or industrial experience preferred but not required.
  • Interest in developing a career in Radiographic Testing and Nondestructive Examination.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to safely use hand tools and inspection equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to understand and follow strict radiation safety procedures and controlled area requirements.
  • Ability to accurately maintain inspection records, equipment information, and documentation.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a two-person or multi-person RT crew.
  • Ability to work in industrial environments, including refineries, pipelines, fabrication facilities, processing plants, and other field locations.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in varying weather and environmental conditions.
  • Ability and willingness to work extended hours, nights, weekends, and variable schedules based on project requirements.
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently to project locations.
  • Must successfully complete all required background checks and drug/alcohol testing.
  • Must meet applicable company and regulatory requirements for individuals working around radiographic operations.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Internal - Work may occasionally be performed in an office, shop, or other controlled environment (10%).
External - Work is primarily performed in industrial and field environments with exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, equipment, and active work sites (90%). Work may include nighttime operations and projects in remote locations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position is physically demanding and requires frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing, and lifting or moving equipment and materials. The employee must possess sufficient visual acuity and auditory perception, with or without corrective devices, to safely perform assigned duties and comply with job-site and radiation safety requirements.

The position may require working extended shifts, nights, weekends, and overtime based on project schedules. Frequent travel to industrial, pipeline, fabrication, and oilfield locations, including remote areas, may be required.
