Job summary

Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation is recruiting for a RS Structural Mech I on 2nd Shift/Nights in Fort Worth. The role focuses on aircraft sheet metal assembly, riveting, drilling, and fastener work, requiring strong blueprint literacy and experience with Solumina and Smarteam.

We seek candidates with a high school diploma or GED and about 1 year of related structural assembly experience, preferably with Savannah Tech program credits.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Perform assembly and fitting of detail parts and structures with drilling and riveting; ensure FAA requirements, customer specs, and Gulfstream quality standards are met.
• Rivet structural assemblies and parts, including sheetmetal, using required tools (rivet guns, pneumatic drills, counter sinks, rivet shavers, files, reamers).
• Read work orders, blueprints, lofts, sketches, and operation sheets to determine sequence, hole pattern and rivet sizes.
• Check all work and ensure defect-free assembly before final inspection.
• Maintain and use logs/records (MIR sheets, DMTs, Crabs, PCOs) and enter daily labor against Work Orders/Item numbers.
• Align and assemble parts to be riveted using jigs, fixtures, pins, clamps and fasteners.
• Keep a neat, safe work area; support 5S; comply with safety regulations.
• Work under moderate supervision on duties and tasks.
• Support Lean activities.
• Participate in continuous improvement activities (YIAW, Kaizen, etc.).
• Keep shop and aircraft areas clean and uncluttered.
• Care for and maintain shop equipment and tools as directed.
• Comply with safety rules and procedures.

Unique Skills:

This position is for the Sheetmetal Shop on 2nd shift:

Aircraft structural assembly / aircraft sheet metal experience (specifically required).

Strong experience with:

Sheet metal fabrication and installation

Drilling, riveting, countersinking, reaming, fastening

Reading blueprints and engineering drawings

Experience with: Solumina & Smarteam

Ability to:

Perform structural assembly and fitting

Use tools such as:

Rivet guns

Pneumatic drills

Rivet shavers

Files, reamers

Remove and install fasteners without damage

Education and Experience Requirements

High School Diploma or GED required. 1 year related structural assembly experience. Experience working with Solumina and Smarteam preferred.. One year experience credit considered for graduates of Savannah Tech Aircraft Structures Technical Certificate Program.

Position Purpose:In a team oriented work environment, under moderate supervision, performs a variety of structural assembly operations in a production department.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:Essential Functions:

1. Perform assembly and fitting of detail parts and structures and varied drilling and riveting operations; ensures parts/assembly meet FAA requirements, customer specifications, and Gulfstream standard of quality .
2. Rivet structural assemblies and parts, including sheetmetal parts, using all tools required. to do the job (e.g. portable riveting guns, pneumatic guns, pneumatic drills, counter sinks, rivet shavers, files, reamers, rivets) .
3. Read work orders, blueprints, lofts, sketches, and operation sheets to determine sequence of operations, type size and hole pattern for rivets.
4. Check all work and ensure a defective free assembly prior to final inspection .
5. Maintain and use all logs and records (e.g. MIR sheets, DMTs, Crabs, PCOs). Use resource planning system to enter daily labor against correct Work Order and Item numbers .
6. Align and assemble parts to be riveted using jigs, holding fixtures, pins, clamps, and fasteners .
7. Maintain a neat and orderly work area, supports the company 5S Program and complies with all safety regulations .
8. Work under moderate supervision on duties and tasks .
9. Support Lean Activities .

Additional Functions:

1. Participate in continuous improvement activities (e.g. YIAW, Kaizen events, etc.) .
2. Keep shop and aircraft work areas clean and uncluttered .
3. Properly care for and maintain shop equipment and tools as assigned by Supervisor .
4. Comply with safety rules and procedures .

Perform other duties as assigned.

Other Requirements:

1. Basic knowledge of various aircraft structures, sheetmetal, and fabrication processes.
2. Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints.
3. Read and interpret 6" scale.
4. Basic computer skills.
5. Must be able to read a scale and perform basic shop math.
6. Read and comprehend basic documents and instructions.
7. Must have essential personal skills, which include an aptitude for hands-on craftwork, a professional attitude, attention to detail, ability to work with people and to meet demanding schedules.
8. Must demonstrate good housekeeping and safety practices.
9. Ability to work with composite resins and materials.
10. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
11. Must be able to work any shift.
12. Must be able to climb ladders/stands/stairs and work in small spaces and/or restricted areas.
13. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
