Job summary

St. Bernards is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to support NICU/OB teams in neonatal care. You will attend high-risk deliveries, perform resuscitation, and manage artificial airways for fragile newborns.

You will work with neonatologists, NPs, NICU nurses, and families to coordinate recovery and transitions, ensuring precise, safe care and effective communication within the team.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care Program.
• Licensed as a Respiratory Therapist in Arkansas.
• RRT/CRT must be active NBRC status.
• Current BLS; PALS and NRP certified.

Responsibilities

• Attend high-risk deliveries, provide neonatal resuscitation, and manage artificial airways.
• Collaborate with neonatologists, NNPs, NICU/OB staff, and families to coordinate recovery and transition of infants.
• Communicate effectively with the care team.
• Perform duties with high accuracy and attention to detail.
• Initiate and monitor mechanical ventilation (ventilators, CPAP, HFNC, HFOV, iNO).
• Administer prescribed aerosolized meds and surfactant to neonates.

Job description

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Education Required Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care Program. Must be licensed as a Respiratory Therapist in the State of Arkansas.
  Must hold the RRT credential (CRT may be considered if one can obtain RRT credential within 3 months in the role). RRT/CRT must be in active status on the NBRC website. Current BLS certification; PALS and NRP certified.
• Experience At least 1 year of critical experiences required; previous experience in this area is desirable but not required. Should possess extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and clinical medicine. Must be able to exercise judgment and accept greater responsibility in therapeutic procedures based on patient observation. Must be able to work independently, as well as a team.
• Physical This is a safety sensitive position. Please see the St. Bernards Substance Abuse Policy for further information. Frequent sitting, standing and walking. Pushing up to 70 lbs. lifting up to 30lb. Operate computer and phone. Be able to operate respiratory equipment needed for our neonates.

JOB SUMMARY

• Attend high-risk deliveries, provide neonatal resuscitation, and manage artificial airways.
• Work alongside neonatologists/nurse practitioners, NICU/OB nurses, and families to coordinate recovery and transition of the infants.
• Be able to communicate effectively with the care team.
• Work must be performed with a high degree of accuracy and particular attention to detail.
• Initiate, monitor, and adjust mechanical support (including conventional ventilators, CPAP, HFNC, high-frequency ventilation(HFOV), and Nitric Oxide (iNO)).
• Administer prescribed aerosolized medications and surfactant directly to fragile lungs.
• Monitoring each newborn’s response to treatment & make changes accordingly.
