Job description

ASI Marine is seeking a skilled ROV Technician to join our Remote Services team in the Buffalo, NY area . ASI operates a diverse fleet of advanced remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) and hydrographic sensors that support industries such as dams, intakes, hydro tunnels, municipal water systems, and nuclear facilities. Utilizing cutting‑edge video capture, sonar imaging, LiDAR, and specialized tooling, ASI’s Remote Services team has earned an international reputation for delivering exceptional underwater inspection and survey work.

Our technicians are problem‑solvers and self‑starters — people who take pride in figuring things out, getting hands‑on, and finding solutions when plans change. The work is collaborative, technical, and highly rewarding. Technicians travel together to unique project sites, work hard in the field, and share in the satisfaction of exploring and inspecting infrastructure few ever get to see.

This role offers the excitement and travel of fieldwork without the offshore lifestyle — ideal for those who thrive in dynamic environments and want to grow their technical and operational skills.

ROV Technicians at ASI:
  • Prepare and maintain ROV systems and support equipment for mobilization.
  • Participate in field operations, collect underwater data, and ensure data quality.
  • Apply technical knowledge and creative problem‑solving in both independent and team settings.
  • Contribute to data processing, analysis, and client deliverables.
  • Take initiative to learn new tools and techniques through ASI’s comprehensive training programs.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of ASI’s proprietary inspection and survey techniques.
  • Set up, configure, and operate ROVs and sensors to acquire high‑quality underwater data.
  • Diagnose and perform maintenance or repairs on ROV and hydrographic systems.
  • Work closely with clients, engineers, and project managers to meet technical and operational goals.
  • Process sensor data and assist with technical reporting that supports maintenance planning, failure analysis, and regulatory compliance.
The Ideal Candidate:
  • Diploma or degree in ROV Pilot/Technician, Electronics, Mechanical, Robotics, or related technology field.
  • Demonstrated hands‑on experience with drones, ROVs, sonar, or similar technologies (asset).
  • Strong initiative and curiosity — comfortable taking ownership of tasks and learning independently.
  • Solid understanding of electronics and ability to read schematics and technical documentation.
  • Proficiency with networking, CAD or design software, and Microsoft Office; Adobe experience is an asset.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and report‑writing skills.
  • Comfortable working on and around water; boating experience is an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license, US passport eligibility, and ability to travel internationally.
  • Physical ability to handle and transport technical equipment and tools.

Base Salary Range*: $65,000-$100,000.

*Actual compensation may vary based on work experience, location, education/training, certifications, knowledge and skills. Base salary is calculated based on 40 hrs/week; however, overtime hours can be expected.
