Job summary

Rumpke Waste and Recycling is seeking a Route Foreman to assist management in overseeing a group of drivers to deliver safe and reliable services in Cincinnati, OH. You will monitor routes, driver performance, and customer issues while ensuring DOT compliance and timely pickups.

The ideal candidate has CDL experience (1–2 years), map-reading skills, and a strong safety mindset. This role requires flexibility and the ability to work nights or weekends as needed.

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years’ CDL driving experience; lead role experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of area and ability to read maps.
  • Must have knowledge of DOT/OSHA regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist management with the daily activities of route drivers including driver observations, lot inspections, Vehicle Safety Inspections, auditing and maintenance of routes
  • Ensure routes are completed by assigned driver or utility driver; run routes as needed
  • Manage missed stops by working cooperatively with dispatch, drivers and/or office staff to resolve issues
  • Assist with assigning and tracking daily work orders to drivers
  • Ensure drivers complete paperwork in accordance with DOT regulations and company policy
  • Assist with the resolution of customer service issues
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of Hours of Service (HOS) regulations to determine when a DOT log is required and provide assistance to drivers in accurately completing the log, if necessary
  • Monitor and enforce quality and safety standards and ensure all compliance goals are met or exceeded
  • Ensure completion of daily routes and ensure that all productivity goals are met or exceeded
  • Assist with delivery of containers
  • Conduct pre-trip/post-trip inspections and completes logs
  • Maintain and updates drivers’ log sheets
  • Assist with minor accident investigation and manage accident reporting, including upload photos and relevant documentation
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Route Foremen are responsible for assisting management in overseeing a group of drivers to ensure safe and productive services to customers. Route Foremen assist with ensuring routes are complete, drivers’ observations are complete, and ensuring resolution of customer issues and missed stops.

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • This position will not manage employees

Skills & Abilities Needed for Position:

  • Must be able to work independently, assist management, and resolve problems
  • Must be able to operate all required equipment
  • Maintain a positive and professional work atmosphere by performing and communicating in a manner that promotes good relationships with all employees, co-workers, management and external customers
  • Must be proficient in the use of computers
  • Must exhibit leadership qualities in order to drive day-to-day operations with the team

Experience & Knowledge Needed for Position:

  • 1-2 years’ experience driving with CDL required; lead role experience preferred
  • Knowledge of area with the ability to read maps
  • Must have knowledge of DOT/OSHA regulations
  • Previous waste industry experience a plus

Physical Requirements in a Regular Workday:

  • Continuously lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 75 lbs
  • Occasionally lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of100 lbs
  • Continuously working outside in changing temperatures, wet/humid conditions
  • Continuously working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter
  • Continuously stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling
  • Continuously climbing and/or balancing
  • Continuously sitting/standing/walking

Additional Working Conditions/Aspects:

  • Must have at least a valid Class B CDL
  • Must have a valid DOT Medical Card or able to obtain prior to hire
  • Must be at least 19 years of age
  • No more than 3 moving violations within the last 2 years
  • Must not have any DUI's or OVI's within the last 5 years or 2 in the last 10 years
  • Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas
  • Exposure to residential and commercial waste
  • Ability to travel between offices, as required
  • Ability to workflexible hours; expected to work nights and weekends as needed
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States
  • Valid driver’s license (if applicable)
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment testing
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language
