Job summary

The St. Louis Area Foodbank in Missouri is seeking a Route Driver responsible for pickups and deliveries of SLAFB products, plus maintenance and organization of facilities and equipment. Candidates must have a High School diploma or GED and a valid Class B driver's license; Class A preferred.

Responsibilities

• Drive Foodbank vehicles to make product pickups and deliveries to agencies and affiliate food banks.
• Maintain accurate records by completing required procedures and forms.
• Verify accuracy of warehouse and freezer delivery orders by reading invoices and counts.
• Assist in inventory reconciliation and related duties.
• Assist in monthly distribution preparation, tracking and reconciliation.
• Assist in the distribution process to meet customer needs.
• Inspect product upon pickup and monitor temperatures for safety.
• Perform daily checks on transportation equipment to ensure safety and readiness.
• Follow food safety and equipment safety policies and procedures and reinforce safe work practices.

General Description/Position Summary

Primary responsibility is the pick-up and delivery of all St. Louis Area Foodbank products, general maintenance, cleanliness, and organization of facilities and equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Responsibly drive Foodbank vehicles to make product pickups and deliveries to agencies and/or affiliate food banks.
• Maintain accurate records by completing all required procedures and forms to ensure the smooth operation of the Foodbank.
• Ensure accuracy of both general warehouse and freezer delivery orders by reading invoices and confirming counts prior to making delivery.
• Assist in inventory reconciliation. Assist in various duties pertaining to maintaining accurate inventory.
• Assist in monthly distribution preparation, tracking and reconciliation.
• Assist in the distribution process to meet customer needs.
• Inspect all product upon pick up, paying close attention to the temperature of freezer and refrigerated items, and determine fitness of product for distribution.
• Conduct daily check on transportation equipment to ensure it is clean, safe and highway-ready.
• Follow safe workplace practices.
• Follow policies and procedures related to food safety and equipment safety.
• Take an active role in reinforcing safe work practices.
• Other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and driving experience required.
• Required to possess and maintain a Class B driver's license.
• Class A driver's license preferred.
• Meet and adhere to required Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
• Skilled in the operation of standard warehouse equipment.
• Ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail, ability to handle interruptions, and maintain focus on tasks producing accurate work.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Must be able to successfully pass pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen, annual Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) review, and driving skills assessment.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in various locations with a significant amount of walking on concrete surfaces. Entrances may be open and work conditions during the summer months can be very hot, and during the winter very cold. Employee may be going in and out of freezers and coolers with extreme variations in temperature. Workspace could be very dusty, and on occasions can be noisy due to the traffic of motorized vehicles operated in the building. Work involves being outside and exposure to the elements. Employee may be exposed to spoiled food and sharp objects due to working with damaged product. Work involves moving boxes and employee must lift, bend, stoop, pick up and move objects up to 75 pounds. Work involves using manual pallet jacks and therefore requires an ability to push and pull pallets over 2,000 pounds.

Disaster relief efforts, special events, and other projects related to this position may require evening and/or weekend work.
