Responsibilities

• Supervise school bus routes for Department of Transportation.
• Develop, modify and maintain currency of all regular, special education, prekindergarten and bilingual bus routes per TEA rules.
• Gather information and prepare TEA State Reports related to transportation.
• Answer queries from district patrons and staff about bus eligibility; distribute schedules to schools.
• Coordinate state directed student counts to determine average ridership.
• Assist Director in projects and assess need for additional routes.
• Maintain routing system knowledge and analyze enrollment/ridership demographics.
• Maintain knowledge of attendance boundaries and district growth plans.
• Assist with daily route assignments and confidentiality of information.

Primary Purpose:

Responsible for creating, informing, maintaining, and modifying school bus route schedules. Maintains communication with administrators and parents concerning bus route schedules.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED

Possess skills necessary to operate personal computer and be willing to learn various software programs

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

• Supervise school bus routes for Department of Transportation
• Develop, modify and maintain currency of all regular, special education, prekindergarten and bilingual bus routes in accordance with rules and regulations for the Texas Education Agency
• Responsible for gathering all necessary information and preparation of TEA State Reports related to transportation.
• Answer all queries from district patrons and school personnel regarding bus eligibility for students, as well as coordinating and distributing all bus information and schedules to district schools
• Supervise and coordinate the scheduling of state directed student counts to determine average annual ridership
• Assist Director in projects and determine the need for additional routes
• Maintain a thorough knowledge of the routing system utilized by the Transportation Department and analyze demographics pertaining to enrollment and ridership.
• Maintain a thorough knowledge of the attendance boundaries, city streets and plans for future growth in the district
• Assist with daily route assignments
• Maintain confidentiality of all information
• Serve as alternate for office positions, as needed, and as a school bus driver
• Work cooperatively with staff to adjust and modify routes, as needed

Equipment Used:

Radio communication equipment, computer, typewriter, telephone, intercom system, copier, fax machine, school buses and other district vehicles. Wheelchair lift and ramps.
