Sylvania is seeking a Route Bus Driver for the 2026-27 school year based at the Solomon District Office. You will operate a school bus on designated routes, ensure timely arrivals, conduct pre-trip inspections, and maintain a clean, safe interior while supporting students and families.

The role emphasizes safety, professional conduct, and effective communication with students, parents, and staff. The district will provide safety training, background checks, DOT physical (paid), and opportunities

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid CDL with passenger transport endorsements (we will help with expenses if not passed).
• Strong knowledge of traffic laws for school bus operation.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with students and parents.
• Ability to manage student behavior and maintain discipline.
• Willingness to undergo background checks and drug testing.
• DOT physical required (district paid).

This full-time position is based at the Solomon District Office, where you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and timely transportation of students to and from school and related activities. The ideal candidate will possess excellent driving skills, a commitment to student safety, and a passion for working with children and the community.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate a school bus along designated routes, ensuring timely arrival and departure at all stops.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus to ensure it is in safe operating condition.
• Maintain a clean and orderly bus interior, adhering to district policies regarding cleanliness and safety.
• Manage student behavior on the bus, ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all passengers.
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff regarding transportation schedules and any changes.
• Adhere to all traffic laws, regulations, and district policies while driving.
• Complete necessary paperwork, including route logs, incident reports, and maintenance records.
• Attend training sessions and staff meetings as required, including safety training and professional development opportunities.
• Respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies, including medical situations and bus breakdowns.
• Collaborate with the transportation team to optimize routes and improve service efficiency.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for passenger transport. (we will help with expenses if you have not passed)
• Strong understanding of traffic laws and regulations related to school bus operation.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage positively with students and parents.
• Ability to manage student behavior and maintain discipline on the bus.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm in emergency situations.
• Physical ability to assist students as needed, including helping with boarding and disembarking.
• Willingness to undergo background checks and drug testing as required by district policy.
• DOT physical required (district paid)
