Universal Plant Services is looking for an experienced Rotating Equipment Specialist (Technical Advisor) to provide onsite technical expertise and support for refinery, petrochemical, and chemical manufacturing facilities. This role is ideal for a hands‑on rotating equipment professional with deep technical knowledge and a passion for solving complex reliability challenges, improving asset performance, and supporting customer success.
Summary of Position:
The Rotating Equipment Specialist (Technical Advisor) serves as an onsite technical expert supporting refinery, petrochemical, and chemical plant customers in the troubleshooting, diagnosis, maintenance, repair, and reliability improvement of rotating equipment. The Specialist works directly with operations, maintenance, and reliability personnel to identify equipment issues, perform root cause investigations, and provide technical recommendations that improve equipment performance, reliability, and availability.
This position requires extensive field experience with pumps, compressors, turbines, blowers, gearboxes, mixers, and mechanical seal systems. The ideal candidate possesses strong diagnostic skills and the ability to identify failure mechanisms through vibration analysis, equipment inspections, lubrication analysis, operating data review, and field troubleshooting.
Essential Job Requirements:
Rotating Equipment Troubleshooting & Diagnostics
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve issues involving rotating equipment in operating refinery and chemical plant environments.
- Identify failure mechanisms and recommend corrective actions for pumps, compressors, turbines, blowers, mixers, gearboxes, and related equipment.
- Perform field inspections and equipment assessments to determine causes of equipment degradation, performance loss, or failure.
- Analyze equipment operating data, maintenance history, and process conditions to identify reliability concerns.

- Review lubrication analysis reports and recommend lubrication strategies and corrective actions.
- Support predictive maintenance and condition-monitoring programs.
Reliability & Maintenance Support
- Conduct Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) investigations and develop recommendations to prevent recurring failures.
- Develop repair scopes, inspection plans, and maintenance recommendations for rotating equipment.
- Support planned outages, shutdowns, and turnarounds by providing technical expertise and field support.
- Provide startup, commissioning, and post-repair troubleshooting support.
- Review OEM recommendations and repair reports to ensure equipment reliability and long-term performance.
Technical Advisory & Customer Support
- Serve as a trusted technical advisor to customers and internal operations teams.
- Provide recommendations for equipment upgrades, reliability improvements, and maintenance best practices.
- Assist customers in evaluating equipment condition and determining repair-versus-replace strategies.
- Coordinate with maintenance personnel, planners, reliability engineers, and vendors to resolve complex equipment issues.
- Prepare technical reports, findings, and recommendations in a clear and professional manner.
Required Education:
- Associate degree in a technical discipline; or
- Equivalent combination of technical training, certifications, and relevant rotating equipment experience.
Preferred Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field.
- Vibration Analysis certification and/or reliability certifications preferred.
Required Experience:
- 5+ years of experience troubleshooting, diagnosing, repairing, and supporting rotating equipment in refinery, petrochemical, chemical, power generation, or industrial facilities.
- Hands‑on experience with pumps, compressors, turbines, blowers, gearboxes, and mechanical seal systems.
- Experience performing equipment inspections, failure analysis, and reliability improvement activities.
- Ability to interpret vibration analysis and equipment condition monitoring data.
- Experience supporting maintenance activities, outages, turnarounds, and startup operations preferred.
Required Skills:
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving abilities.
- Ability to diagnose equipment issues in the field with minimal supervision.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong customer-facing and technical advisory skills.
- Ability to lead investigations and provide practical solutions.

- Ability to manage multiple customer projects and priorities simultaneously.
Working Conditions:
- Onsite position within refinery, petrochemical, and chemical plant environments.
- Requires routine field inspections of rotating equipment in operating units.
- Must be able to walk, climb stairs/ladders, and wear all required PPE.
Pay Range: $100,000 – $150,000
