Job summary

Advocate Health Care is seeking a Dietary Assistant for Advocate Trinity Hospital in Park Ridge to support patient meal service and dietary compliance.

The role includes taking patient menu orders, relaying dietary needs to dietitians, and ensuring orders reflect physician instructions while maintaining courtesy and accuracy in all interactions. Flexible hours and hospital environment experience are valued.

Qualifications

  • Ability to speak, read and write English clearly and proficiently.
  • Computer skills are required for entering and updating meal orders.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology (T.I.D., B.I.D., etc.) is preferred.
  • Math skills: conversions of oz, cc, ml.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Answer room service calls to obtain patient menu selections and communicate special needs to dietitians.

  • Ensure meal tickets comply with diet orders, allergies and proper identifiers.
  • Communicate between nursing, host/hostess, and kitchen staff to clarify orders and provide prompt service.

  • Maintain professional image and follow department dress code policy.

Major Responsibilities

Menu Selections and Communication

  • Answers room service phone calls to obtain menu selections from patients and/or patients families.
  • Communicates special patient needs to dietitians.

Processing Diet Orders

  • Follows physician’s diet orders for all patients
  • Updates and maintains accurate patient card files in computer.
  • Adheres to specific standards for diets when entering selections into computer or in modifying and checking menus.
  • Ensure meal tickets are in compliance with diet orders, allergies and proper identifier on the meal tickets.
  • Updates and maintains nourishment orders to ensure diet orders are met.

Communication

  • Communicates between nursing, host/hostess, and kitchen staff in order to clarify orders and provide prompt service.
  • Communicates special patient needs to dietitians.
Other

  • Attends scheduled inservices and meetings.
Education/Experience Required

High School diploma or GED.

6mos-1yr experience in hospitality industry Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: Ability to speak, read and write English clearly and proficiently, as related to essential job activities

Physical Requirements And Working Conditions
  • Flexible work hours between 5:00 A.M. and 8:30 P.M. including weekends and holidays.
  • Limited exposure to hazardous conditions.
  • Safety and sanitation when in kitchen.
  • Ability to handle various tasks simultaneously especially during high patient volumes.

If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available.
