Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a Nutrition Services Assistant to support patient meal planning and delivery in our Colorado facility. You will interact with patients, record meal preferences, and ensure accurate tray assembly and delivery.

The role requires reading, writing and basic math, plus 1–2 years in nutrition services and a friendly, customer-focused demeanor. Training on food handling and safety is provided, with potential bilingual advantages.

Qualifications

• Reading, writing and mathematical skills are required.
• 1–2 years of related experience in nutrition services is preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills are essential.
• Able to follow safety guidelines for chemicals and cleaning.
• Experience with business software and POS systems is a plus.
• Willingness to learn nutrition services and portion measures.
• At least 2 shifts per month commitment.
• Background checks and health screenings are required.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Bilingual skills are a plus in some assignments.

Responsibilities

• Visit patients to discuss and select menu options based on dietary orders.
• Record daily patient meal selections and preferences.
• Edit patient menus as needed and support tray setup.
• Prepare and portion foods, assemble patient trays, and deliver meals.
• Provide customer service by phone and in person; resolve complaints.
• Maintain food handling and sanitation standards; ensure safety compliance.
• Interact with patients, families, and staff including dietitians and dietetic technicians.

Job description

• Visit patients to obtain or discuss menu selections based on dietary orders
• Enter or record daily patient meal selections and preferences for one or more patient units
• Use judgment with modified diets, food and menu knowledge, and request Diet Tech or Dietitian assistance when needed
• Edit patient menus as required
• Set up tray workstations, prepare and portion assigned foods, and assemble patient trays
• Deliver and serve meals, including handling special requests, snacks, and nourishments
• Provide customer service by phone or in person and resolve complaints
• Maintain food handling and sanitation standards
• Interact with patients, families, food service staff, nursing staff, dietetic technicians, and dietitians
• Follow work routines and resolve minor problems with patient menus and trays

Requirements

• Reading, writing and mathematical skills
• One to two years of related experience in nutrition services
• Effective interpersonal communication skills and a friendly customer service attitude
• Ability to follow instructions and safety guidelines for working with cleaning chemicals
• Ability to learn and work with business computer software and point of sale systems
• Ability to learn food handling regulations and pass certification tests as required
• Demonstrated effective customer service skills
• Minimum commitment of 2 shifts per month
• Completion of post-offer Occupational Health physical assessment, drug screen and background check, including employment, criminal and education checks
• High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge preferred, not required
• Understanding of nutrition services, common modified diets, and portion measures preferred
• Bilingual skills preferred in some assignments
