Summary
Assist Roofers and Foremen with preparing the job site and covering roofs with materials such as metal, shingles, single-ply systems (TPO, PVC, and EPDM), slate, asphalt, aluminum, wood, and related materials. May operate hand and power tools of all types.
Responsibilities
- Assist Roofers and Foremen with preparing the job site
- Cover roofs with materials such as metal, shingles, single-ply systems (TPO, PVC, EPDM), slate, asphalt, aluminum, wood, and related materials
- Operate hand and power tools of all types
- Clean up debris from the roof surface and surrounding property
- Assist with installation of vapor barriers, insulation on roof decks, and cover exposed nail heads with roofing cement or caulking
- Assist with installation of overlapping layers of material over roof insulation surfaces
- Assist with covering roofs and exterior walls of structures with various materials
- Operate vehicles or mechanized devices as required
- Repair cracks, defects, or damage using proper materials
- Apply adhesives, caulking, sealants, or coatings
- Meet the physical demands of the job
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: High School or G.E.D preferred but not required
- Experience: General construction experience preferred
- Driver's License: Not required but it's a plus
- Willing to submit to a 10-panel drug test
- Must be self-motivated, open-minded, and able to accept constructive criticism
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Knowledge of basic safety techniques and procedures
- Attention to detail, ability to prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines according to instructions
- Ability to organize, plan, and execute work assignments
- Interpersonal skills to work on a team
- Ability to read and use tape measure, mark, or record distances
- General basic knowledge of construction materials and tools
- Ability to identify problems and communicate them to foreman to accomplish work
- Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner according to instructions
Essential Functions
- Clean up debris from the roof surface and surrounding property
- Assist with installation of vapor barriers and/or insulation on roof decks

- Assist with installation of overlapping layers of material over roof insulation surfaces
- Assist with covering roofs and exterior walls with appropriate materials

- Meet the physical demands of the job
Physical Demands
- Standing for long periods
- Use of ladders, scaffolds, and stairways
- Climb, lift, balance, walk, and handle materials
- Physical strength to support repeated movements
- Ability to see details at close range
- Repetitive movement, bending, twisting, kneeling, crouching, stooping or crawling
- Ability to stand, walk, lift, and carry items weighing 50 pounds regularly
Work Environment
- Exposure to bright or inadequate lighting, high/low temperatures, and noise
- Exposure to contaminants or hazardous materials
- Safety procedures must be followed; mistakes have serious consequences
- Exposure to minor burns, cuts, bites, or stings
- Exposure to high places or dangerous conditions
