Job summary
Actalent is seeking a Rolling Mill Automation Engineer to design, implement, and modernize drive systems for steel and aluminum rolling mills in Aurora, OH. You will lead commissioning, troubleshoot issues, and optimize strip tension, loop control, and speed matching across hot and cold lines.
The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's in Electrical or Controls Engineering and 5+ years' direct experience with rolling mill drive systems, including AC/DC motor control, and is willing to travel for
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in electrical/controls engineering.
- 5+ years in rolling mill automation and drive systems.
- Direct, hands-on work on rolling mill drive systems.
- Experience with hot and cold rolling applications and drive coordination.
- Strong knowledge of strip tension, loop control and speed matching.
- AC and DC motor control expertise.
- Willingness to travel for startup and commissioning.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and modernize drive systems for rolling mills.
- Lead commissioning of rolling mill drive systems and ensure reliable startups.
- Troubleshoot automation and drive systems during startup and operations.
- Apply strip tension control, loop control, and tension zone strategies to optimize processes.
- Support multiple drive modernization projects from concept to commissioning.
- Collaborate with operations/engineering to integrate drives into rolling lines.
- Ensure designs meet requirements for various mill types (hot/cold, tandem, PLTCM).
- Travel to customer sites to support startup and commissioning.
