Job summary

Specter Aerospace is building the next generation of hypersonic vehicles with offices in Boston and Peabody, MA. This open application will support roles based in any/all of our U.S.

offices, in preparation for flight testing and full‑scale production. Responsibilities include developing custom systems for hypersonic flight vehicles, conducting research, design, fabrication, and testing of flight‑intent hardware, and interfacing with engineering teams to define scope and ensure full system

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in an applicable field is required.
• Experience with modeling and simulation packages is required.
• Comfort with autonomous, fast-paced work environments.
• Strong collaborative skills and drive for quality work.
• Available for up to 10% travel for test activities and to obtain DoD clearance.

Responsibilities

• Develop custom systems for hypersonic flight vehicles.
• Lead research, design, fabrication, and test of flight‑intent hardware.
• Interface with all engineering teams to define scope and ensure system functionality and scalability.
• Be the Responsible Engineer for vehicle tests and data systems, maintaining documentation and system performance knowledge.
• Participate in technical meetings and contribute perspectives.

About Specter Aerospace

Specter Aerospace is building the next generation of hypersonic vehicles for U.S. Forces and Allies. With offices in Boston and Peabody, MA, Specter leverages its advanced propulsion technologies, manufacturing, and testing capabilities to rapidly develop supersonic and hypersonic systems. This open application will be reviewed for roles based in any/all of our offices. Funded by a mix of government R&D organizations and private funding, Specter is expanding its team in preparation for flight testing and full-scale production.

Role & Responsibilities

• Develop custom systems required for hypersonic flight vehicles

• Take initiative in research, design, fabrication, and test of flight-intent hardware

• Interface with all engineering teams to develop and refine requirements, define technical scope, and ensure complete system functionality and scalability

• Be the Responsible Engineer of vehicle test, and/or data systems, maintaining documentation and knowledge of system performance and constraints
• Take part in technical meetings, engage in technical discussions, and contribute perspectives

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in an applicable field

• Experience with relevant computer modeling and simulation packages

• Comfort with project autonomy and fast-paced work environments

• Strong collaborative skills and a drive to produce quality work

• Available for up to 10% travel for test activities

• Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance (U.S. Citizenship required)

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous professional OR student team (FSAE, SEDS, AIAA, etc.) project experience directly relevant to the requirements for this position

• Familiarity with aerospace and military avionics standards (IPC, MIL-SPEC, etc.)

• Comfortable fabricating and assembling in-house prototypes of custom systems
