Petticoat-Schmitt Civil Contractors, Inc. in Jacksonville, FL is seeking an experienced Rollback Truck Driver to transport heavy equipment to and from our jobsites.

This role requires a Class A CDL and hands-on experience operating rollback and other heavy machinery. You will load, secure, and unload loads, follow schedules, coordinate with field crews, and maintain safety and compliance with DOT regulations.

We specialize in public works, water resources (including water and wastewater treatment plants), and site development, with expertise in underground utilities, roadway construction, and related civil infrastructure.

We are seeking an experienced Rollback Truck Driver to transport heavy construction equipment and materials to and from our jobsites throughout Jacksonville and surrounding areas.

This position requires a Class A CDL, commercial truck driving experience, and experience operating heavy construction equipment. You'll be responsible for safely loading, securing, transporting, and unloading equipment while coordinating with field teams to keep our projects supplied and moving on schedule.

What You'll Do
Equipment Transportation
  • Safely operate a rollback truck to transport heavy construction equipment and materials to and from jobsites.
  • Load and unload construction equipment using the rollback truck.
  • Properly position, secure, and verify equipment and loads before transport.
  • Verify equipment, materials, and load weights to ensure safe and compliant transportation.
  • Follow assigned pickup and delivery schedules to support project needs.
  • Coordinate equipment moves between jobsites, facilities, and other designated locations.
Driving & Equipment Responsibilities
  • Perform required pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
  • Maintain a safe and compliant driving record.
  • Follow applicable DOT regulations, traffic laws, and company safety procedures.
  • Maintain required transportation, delivery, and load documentation.
  • Keep the assigned truck clean, organized, and in good working condition.
  • Identify and report equipment, vehicle, or safety concerns promptly.
Communication & Teamwork
  • Communicate clearly with Foremen, Superintendents, equipment operators, and other field personnel regarding pickups and deliveries.
  • Coordinate with field teams to ensure equipment and materials arrive according to project schedules and requirements.
  • Communicate delays, equipment issues, or changes that may affect scheduled deliveries.
  • Represent Petticoat-Schmitt professionally while traveling between jobsites and interacting with employees, customers, vendors, and the public.
What We're Looking For
Experience & Qualifications
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required.
  • Commercial truck driving experience required.
  • Heavy construction equipment operating experience required.
  • Experience safely loading, securing, transporting, and unloading heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of proper load securement practices and safe transportation procedures.
  • Ability to safely operate construction equipment when loading and unloading the rollback truck.
  • Understanding of applicable DOT regulations and commercial vehicle safety requirements.
  • Additional CDL endorsements preferred but not required.
  • Ability to follow schedules, directions, and jobsite requirements.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently while supporting multiple field teams.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to safely enter and exit commercial trucks and heavy construction equipment throughout the workday.
  • Ability to climb, bend, kneel, reach, push, pull, and perform tasks associated with loading and securing equipment.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to safely navigate active construction sites and uneven terrain.
  • Ability to work around moving vehicles and heavy equipment.
  • Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment.

Work Schedule
  • Monday–Friday, generally 7:00 AM–4:00 PM.
