Join a robotics and automation company and embark on an exciting journey that is attacking an unsolved problem at a scope, scale, and speed not commonly seen in industry. Tackle some of the toughest problems in a rapidly growing field alongside a team of world‑class professionals. We work smart, leveraging the latest research, algorithms, and techniques applied at scale.
As a Robotics Test Technician, you own the hands‑on testing of our robotic systems — setting up the test, running it, watching how the machine actually behaves, and writing up what you saw so the engineering team can act on it. You keep the systems healthy through preventative maintenance, light assembly, and electromechanical troubleshooting, and you build and inspect the end‑of‑arm tooling the robots pick with. You are the person who knows what the machine really does, and that knowledge goes straight into design reviews and into the experiments we run to answer hard questions. At Lab0, you will be part of a world‑class team building robotic industrial automation products, with a clear runway to grow into a senior test or engineering technician role for the right candidate.
About Lab0.
We are privately funded, extremely focused, and designing and deploying some of the most exciting robotic technologies in the world. We have very large customers that we work backwards from to deliver delight. Founded by Ex‑Amazon, MIT‑trained, and experienced engineers who have worked together for years, we are building the company of our dreams by removing all of the things that traditionally get in the way.
About you:
- You love robotics, automation, and the "How" of why things work the way they do.
- You have a passion for finding out how the next generation of robotic solutions actually behaves and for being the one who finds it out first.
- You work efficiently, stay ready to learn, hold great attention to detail, and bring an innovative mind.
- You can learn a new and complicated system fast, with very little written documentation to work from, and you would rather ask a question than make an assumption.
- You know the difference between a machine running normally and a machine doing something new — and you can explain what you saw.
- You are outcomes/results‑oriented and execution‑focused, with a demonstrated track record of high "Say/Do" ratios.
The "Basics" — requirements and responsibilities:
- High school diploma or equivalent, with hands‑on experience around equipment, machines, tools, or lab hardware.
- A technical degree, trade certificate, or military technical training is a strong plus but is not required — a track record of working on real machines matters more.
- Set up test areas, fixtures, and loads for scheduled tests, conduct tests to written test plans, and tear it all down afterward.
- Execute written test steps exactly the same way every time. Repeatability is the whole point — if the procedure drifts, the data is worthless.
- Stay focused through long test runs, react fast, and stop the system safely when something does not look right.
- Document the performance of the robotic systems and the state of each system in a clear daily report that engineers can use without having to come back and ask.
- Perform preventative maintenance, cleaning, and routine adjustments on robotic and support equipment.
- Carry out light assembly and electromechanical troubleshooting on sub‑assemblies and test rigs.
- Assemble end‑of‑arm tooling (EOAT) and inspect it for wear, damage, and conformance before and after test.
- Participate in design reviews, bringing what you observed in test back to the engineering team, and help plan and conduct designs of experiments (DOE) to isolate variables and answer specific engineering questions.
- Comfort working where the hardware, the tests, and the priorities change often — this is pre‑production hardware, and it changes week to week.
- Basic computer skills, including web tools and spreadsheets.
- Understanding of basic safety around moving and powered equipment, and the discipline to follow site safety rules and wear the required protective equipment.
- Able to lift and move up to 50 lbs and stay on your feet for long periods.
- Good attendance and punctuality — the test schedule depends on the full team being there.
The "Nice to haves"
- Experience with Linux and the command line.
- Experience with version control, ideally Git.
- Past work in testing, quality control, manufacturing, automotive, or a lab.
- Some scripting skills, or a real interest in learning them — a technician who can automate a repetitive check pays for themselves fast.
- Ability to read log files or basic sensor output and tell a story from them.
- Comfort with common hand tools and light fabrication.
- Exposure to industrial robotics, collaborative robotics, AMRs, or material‑handling systems.
- Forklift or pallet jack experience.
Benefits
- Insurance — medical, dental, and more
- Paid time off
We value
- A Customer, Customer, Customer mindset — working backwards from their perspective.
- Individuals who thrive and excel in dynamic teams and demonstrate "Thinking Big," a willingness to explore new frameworks, persistence when things don't go well, and commitment to a high "Say/Do" ratio.
- Strong written and oral communication skills at both technical and management levels.
- Skill in collecting, curating, organizing, synthesizing, and analyzing data to summarize findings and develop evidence‑based recommendations.
- A collaborative mindset — working across operations, partnerships, hardware, and software to make this a reality.
- A self‑starter who thrives in uncertainty and ambiguity, comfortable blazing a new path into the jungle of opportunities and the desert of the real.
