About The Role

Robotics Technicians at the Angola NVH facility keep robotic welding, material-handling, and assembly cells safe, repeatable, and productive. This hands‑on role combines robot programming and recovery with troubleshooting of tooling, PLC interfaces, machine safety, welding equipment, vision, sensors, motion, and cell sequencing. You will work with Maintenance, Engineering, Quality, and Production on breakdowns, chronic losses, launches, and continuous improvement.

EQUIPMENT & SYSTEMS YOU MAY SUPPORT
  • FANUC and Yaskawa/Motoman industrial robots.
  • Servo tooling and positioners, end‑of‑arm tooling, grippers, fixtures, and pneumatic or hydraulic devices.
  • Controls & HMI: Allen‑Bradley ControlLogix, CompactLogix, SLC and PLC‑5 systems; PanelView and other HMIs.
  • Motors & motion: VFDs, servo drives, motors, encoders, sensors, machine I/O, remote I/O, and industrial Ethernet.
  • MIG and resistance welding systems, weld guns and torches, wire‑feed equipment, and related interfaces.
  • Keyence vision, laser measurement, and automated inspection systems.
  • Conveyors, dial tables, walking‑beam transfers, and automated material‑handling or assembly equipment.
Work Environment
  • Office environment: artificial lighting, computers, telephones, desks, and temperature‑controlled conditions.
  • Manufacturing environment: machine and equipment noise, welding exhaust, metal‑working fluid mist, non‑controlled temperatures, moving equipment, and required use of PPE.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support for robotic welding, material‑handling, machine‑tending, and automated assembly cells with safety, quality, and uptime as priorities.
  • Provide shift wide troubleshooting of ladder logic.
  • Assist in management of PLC related faults and diagnosis.
  • Provide work around and improvement insight for any logix related downtime identified during your shift.
  • Diagnose robot alarms and cell faults, safely recover equipment, and determine the root cause of repeated stops, collisions, lost positions, or sequence problems.
  • Teach and modify robot positions, paths, speeds, zones, frames, tool‑center‑point data, registers, I/O logic, and routines in accordance with plant change‑control practices.
  • Maintain robot backups and support mastering, calibration, payload/tooling setup, battery replacement, and recovery after controller or mechanical work.
  • Troubleshoot robot‑to‑PLC handshakes, networked or discrete I/O, industrial Ethernet, interlocks, and sequence logic with maintenance and controls personnel.
  • Support robot and cell safety systems, including E‑stops, gate interlocks, light curtains/scanners, safe zones or DCS functions where equipped, and approved teach‑mode operation; apply LOTO when hazardous‑energy isolation is required.
  • Troubleshoot end‑of‑arm tooling, grippers, clamps, weld guns and torches, dress packs, cables, sensors, valves, fixtures, positioners, and related pneumatic or hydraulic systems.
  • Support robotic MIG and resistance welding applications, including robot path, torch or gun alignment, wire‑feed and weld‑equipment interfaces, and coordination with process or weld engineering.
  • Support vision and measurement systems and help isolate whether a failure originates in the robot, PLC, tooling, sensor, communications, or process.
  • Improve cycle time, reliability, and repeatability; perform robot preventive maintenance; support launches and prove‑out; document changes and train manufacturing or maintenance personnel on proper operation and recovery.
  • All other duties as assigned.

  • Working knowledge of robot frames, TCPs, I/O, program flow, mastering or calibration concepts, backups, recovery, and collision troubleshooting.
  • Working knowledge of industrial PLCs and controls; Allen‑Bradley Studio 5000 / RSLogix experience is a strong plus.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, robot and tooling drawings, machine prints, and weld symbols.
  • Experience with industrial networks, remote I/O, servo devices, sensors, safety systems, robotic welding, or machine vision is valuable.
  • Mechanical aptitude with end‑of‑arm tooling, fixtures, pneumatics, hydraulics, precision measurement, and basic GD&T is preferred.
  • Automotive manufacturing and IATF 16949 / APQP / PPAP familiarity are helpful. Strong communication, documentation, and training skills are expected.

  • Ability to troubleshoot complete machine systems, communicate clearly, document repairs, and use maintenance software/PLC‑HMI tools. Must be self‑directed, dependable, safety‑focused, and able to work assigned shifts and overtime as needed.
  • MUST BE ABLE TO WORK ALL 3 SHIFTS.
Physical Demands
  • Sitting periodically to complete documentation, review drawings, access PLC/control software, and perform computer‑based work.
  • Standing and walking for extended periods throughout manufacturing and production areas.
  • Regular bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and climbing to access equipment, controls, robotics systems, machinery, and elevated work areas.
  • Working in confined or restricted equipment spaces when safe access has been established.
  • Regular lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of materials and equipment up to 25 pounds and occasional lifting up to 50 pounds with or without assistance.
  • Visual acuity, depth perception, and manual dexterity sufficient to perform electrical troubleshooting, operate hand tools, utilize test equipment, and work with computers and control systems.
